Maxitours at stunning Stockport.
Maxitours players enjoyed the warm, mild weather at Stockport Golf Club today.
The chances of Mrs Maxwell getting a nice Christmas present were once again looking a little bleak this morning as most local courses were closed due to heavy overnight and morning rain. But the Stockport course holds up incredibly well and the free draining greens were running fast and true and were a pleasure to putt on.
Thanks to everyone at this lovely Club for looking after us so well.
Head greenkeeper Robert Cleishman is right at the top of his game and presented a very well manicured course for us today. Thank you, Robert.
Dave Sarsfield always looks on the bright side of things and he is delighted that in 2030 the new ball limitations will mean his drives travel 10-15% less than they currently do. He has worked out that he will be playing his second shots from 10-15% less deep in the woods and he may possibly hit an occasional fairway.
We should all thank Fred Bridge as he enters the twos every week but after seven years he had never had a two. Today he recorded his first – on the tough 8th hole where he received 2 shots and had a net 0 for five points. He receives 7 srixon golf balls. Let’s hope he doesn’t lose one as they have cost him roughly £400 each.
In todays event Sandbach based nice guys Dave Goodwin, Dave Snape, Richard Williamson and Paul Woodbine were on fire to record 84 points. They took 3rd place but were just pipped by softly spoken Kev Hart, Mark Foley, Paul Yearsley and class golfer Pete O’Neill who all had a strong back nine holes.
Winning today was the New Mills’ charismatic team of Tony Jennison, Steve Austin, Richard Blackwell and Gary Smith. They scored 86 points to win by a single shot. Their Christmas turkey will taste just a little bit better this year.
All that remains is for me to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Successful, Happy and Healthy Golfing year in 2024. Thanks for your support.
The Clarion Wealth Planning Summer Schedule will be released as usual on Christmas Eve.
All the very best,
Tim
