Maxitours at bouncy Llangollen
‘That is the most enjoyable round of golf I have played all year!’ Declared category one handicapper Andy Parrington.
It was a phrase repeated by many players as the incredibly dry fairways were enjoyed by all players.
‘Have they had any rain here this Winter?’ Asked Neale Laurent as he came off the course with sparkling golf shoes.
The greens were also immaculate.
There is also a new steward and the bacon butties served today were possibly the best we have had all year. Thick crispy bacon, soft toasted bread. First class.
Thanks to everyone at Llangollen for their hospitality. What a lovely venue.
There was some great team scoring today, but the most impressive stat was Knutsford’s lovable Bob Sutton who appeared on his team card a record 16 times. Either Bob played great or Bob’s handicap (29) is too high. You decide.
Dan Williams played with two Welsh members here last week and said he played great because when he asked for a line they kept telling him to aim at a particular sheep on the mountainside. He put his bad play this afternoon down to the fact that there were ‘too many sheep and they were a bit friskier than normal.’ I thought I’d heard every excuse in the book but this is a new one on me.
Scoring was excellent as players enjoyed the Springlike conditions.
Tytheringtons John Croxford, Julian Brindley, Andy Adshead and Brigg Simpson had their first podium finish with 83 points. Second place went to Antrobus legend Roy ‘chunky’ Ainsworth who loves a kit kat. His team of Ian Holbrook, Dave Hanson and Tom Keeling all contributed well.
Winning today was Martin Humphries team with a superb 89 points. The only problem for Maxitours regular nice guy Martin was that it was his team that won but he wasn’t playing this week. A couple of late stand-ins Adrian Brown and Jim Heywood did the business as caring Martin spent the day shopping with his elderly mum in Liverpool. Dave Hest and Keith Shale completed the on form quartet whilst Martin was browsing the ladies underwear section in Marks and Spencers . Well played chaps – great win.
