Maxitours at super Stockport
Stockport was bone dry for todays Maxitours event.
The wonderful greens were cut and ironed this morning ready for todays event. Excellent work.
The club improves all the time and is currently being refurbished. The bar will be raised even higher when the work is completed this April.
Dan in the pro shop is a star and can’t do enough for me. He takes out the nearest the pin markers with a smile on his face. Top man.
The cool Easterly breeze ensured a few rosy faces in the Clubhouse after play. Paul Price had a very red face after setting a new Maxitours record when he achieved ‘the shortest putt ever missed to win some balls in the sweep’. His 5 inch effort actually missed the hole completely. He was very quiet in the clubhouse after his round.
Martin Mellor is crazy about golf. He played 18 holes today. I asked him if he was playing on Wednesday:
‘No. I’ve had major shoulder surgery. I’ve played this weekend and I’m playing tomorrow but I’m seeing my shoulder consultant on Wednesday so I can’t play. He is hopefully giving me permission to start playing again.’
Veteran nice guy Tim Spencer is incredibly positive his team finished second last today.
‘Success was just getting around and being alive.’ Very true. It looked like he had actually died on the front nine when he didn’t feature on the card but was resuscitated with a couple of pars on the back nine.
Prestbury had three teams playing at Stockport. New President Simon Moorhead and new Captain Martin Prescott both played in separate teams but they were overshadowed by less important Steve Saunders and his team who has spent most of his Maxitours career at the bottom of the results table but a solid 83 points saw them achieve their best ever Maxitours finish- in 8th place.
In todays event everyone’s favourite Martin Humphries led his team of Tony Hereford, Jim Heywood and Barry Caldwell into 3rd place.
Second place went to Ashton In Makerfields Paul Woods, Andrew Dean, Kevin Sharratt and Phillip Molyneux.
But winning with 89 points was Davenports Richard Blackwell, John Hilton, Steve Austin and Tony Jennison. The likeable quartet played some great golf today and were delighted with their victory. Jennison (5) was the star player with four birdies and an eagle on the 12th hole. Well played chaps.
Thanks to everyone for your 100% attendance. Incredible,
Tim
