Maxitours at Bolton Old Links

Perfect golfing conditions once again greeted my Maxitours competitors. What a Spring we are having.

The greens at Bolton are the best we have played on all year. Outstanding. Despite freezing underground temperatures they are watered twice each night and the surfaces are excellent. Well done to head green keeper Phil and his team. The Bolton Old links greens were average for years and then ten years ago they turned things around. Amazing.

There is a great team at Bolton. Pro Sean Owen is a class act and stocks Hugo Boss and JL Lindeburg in his shop, Liz is a great Clubhouse manager and brings a real buzz to the place. Thanks guys.

Play is always quick at Bolton as there is not much rough and the course flows well. In fact the only thing that slows play a little is the smooth, slick greens which Maxitours players regularly enjoy three putting. They are scary.

I disappeared for 2 hours and went to Maxitours player and lovely man – John Dickensons funeral today. He would’ve loved to be out on the course. Play with a smile on your face and make the most of your time on the golf course guys. Every day is precious.

Richard Williamson entered the Clubhouse with a big smile on his face. Not only had he played well but he had a had two pints in the bar next to the Bolton 18th green. The bar was put there during Covid and is now a firm favourite with players. The pints were flowing today.

Peter Maher loved it out there and enjoyed the firm fast running fairways.
‘I always wondered why it was called Bolton Old Links but it was like playing a links course out there today.’ Observed the likeable Bramhall man. There were only 4 two’s on the course today and Maher holed his approach on the 8th to win his share of the balls. Excellent.

Scoring was tough with housewife superstars Dave Goodwin, Richard Williamson, Paul Woodbine and Alex Smith setting the pace with 82 points.

The Hazel Grove team of Darren Wilkinson, Melanie Blades, Kalin Shokraee and Mike Charlton recorded an excellent 83 points for second place. They narrowly pipped the Ringway quartet of Peter Jewitt, Tony Goldsmith, Charles Keirl and David Fussell on a card play off.

Winning the Bolton Old links event with a super 86 points were ever present lovely guys Neil Evans, Phil Dickens, Lewis Marland and Dave Greenwood. Lewis was on fire and he birdied the 14th and 16th in a really hot spell. Well played chaps.
It is superb to see such a low score winning an open event. Maxitours players integrity is admired throughout the golf industry, Thank you so much.

Yours in golf and friendship,
Tim
