Room still available on the January trip to amazing Quinta do Lago – possibly the best resort in Europe. Great golf, friendship and competition.

Maxitours at lovely Lancaster

Lancaster Golf and country club was magnificent today. The golf course was a stunning lime green colour as the drought that has hit the rest of the UK has missed this little oasis.

The putting surfaces and fairways were immaculate and the clubhouse and surrounding huge trees and gardens are wonderful.

The Maxitours competitors who travelled were rewarded with one of the best golfing days of the year.

The temperature was 5 degrees or so cooler than the Manchester area as the cool sea breeze and elevated course gave some welcome relief.

It was great to see Clarion Wealth owner Keith Thompson playing today and his Hale team had a very respectable mid table finish. Thanks for all you do for my tour Keith.

Bob Clarkes wife isn’t daft. Carolyn came to Lancaster to watch her partner play golf. They also have a static camper van parked up nearby. It was soon a toss-up between watching Alcaraz’s legs or Bob’s slice. She quietly disappeared to the van and had a much more enjoyable afternoon chomping on an ice cream and watching the tennis.

The journey to Lancaster took just over an hour from Knutsford. I don’t know where Kevin Moore thought Lancaster was but he turned up 3 hours before his tee time.

‘My timing is all wrong.’ he admitted. Likeable Kevins’ timing didn’t improve on the course and the team finished with 66 points.

Scoring was low as the Maxitours players unrivalled integrity was once again on full display.

Recording their first ever win with 81 points was the Tytherington team of Steve Dow(10), Andrew Adshead(11), Steve Webb(6) and Nick Coleman(9). Adshead was a young man when he started playing in my events nearly 20 years ago and he can now finally sleep easily after getting the huge monkey off his back. Two solid pars on Lancasters famous closing par three secured a one shot win.

Second place went to Hopwoods Steve and Janet Heywood playing alongside Chris Lee and Graham Davenport. They came home in 42 points to charge through the field. Jim Caldwells Wilmslows team was 3rd and Sandiways Gary Neiles was 4th.

It was good to see Salfords Kev Hart back in the prizes in 5th place.

What a day. Thanks for playing.
