Maxitours at fantastic Mottram Hall
What a glorious day! Hardly a breath of wind and an incredibly dry Mottram Hall golf course meant a great day was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Hats off to Mottram Head Greenkeeper Alistair. He has full confidence in his abilities and golfers are rarely off the excellent greens here despite being a busy course. Great green keeping.
‘Those fairways and greens are incredible for January.’ Announced well-travelled Peter Dobson.
Someone else who is well travelled is Russell Keighley. For some bizarre reason he went to Bredbury Hall in Stockport rather than Mottram Hall today so was five minutes late for his start time.
Bredbury Hall has apparently been knocked down. There was never a golf course there and the dodgy hotel/nightclub there is most famous for its ‘grab a granny’ Thursday night disco. He still claims he has no idea why he put it in his Sat Nav and is keen to point out that he has never grabbed a granny in his life….
I told one of my players about Keith heading to Bredbury Hall. He said his mate was a taxi driver and picked up a Japanese tourist from Manchester Airport who had some golf clubs and asked to go to the Belfry. He drove him 2 hours down to Sutton Coldfield before he realised that his client wanted the Belfry Hotel in nearby Handforth.
Munro Donald lost his Dodo headcover but was relieved when it was handed in.
‘These particular headcovers are extinct’ Reported the retired Doctor.
In today’s event scoring was excellent with a shortened course and idyllic conditions.
Third place went to Sandiways Gary Neiles and his team with 87 points.
Second went to the Saddleworth quartet of Lee Tilley, Pete Norbury who had a day out also winning nearest the pin on the 11th, Dave Rhodes and Ian Hogg. They scored a best of the season 92.
Winning was the Wilmslow quartet of Jim Caldwell, John Roome, Steve Perrett and Lee Charnley. They started slowly on the back nine but finished strongly picking up 7 shots on their closing three holes. Excellent. A handicap reduction is now in place for this very competitive and likeable group.
Thanks to everyone for playing today,
Yours in golf,
Tim
