Maxitours at stunning Vale Royal
Vale Royal in deepest Cheshire was today’s fantastic venue. A lovely fresh January day greeted competitors and once again we were blessed with a very dry day.
The golf course and greens were superb.
‘Those putting surfaces were excellent!’ Reported likeable retired Dave Blood, he is so nice it is hard to believe he was once a copper.
‘A lovely day and the greens were rolling well, even Neil Davies made two 2’s!’ Announced his team mate Jonty Little.
The beautiful Abbey was built in the 16th Century. Henry VIII was in power and William Shakespeare was busy writing his plays. Luckily for the medieval folk of England, America and Donald Trump hadn’t been discovered yet.
It is the most impressive Clubhouse we visit all year and I never stop admiring the building.
Owner Steve Graham must be very proud of what he has achieved.
It was nice to see Steve Jenkinson on his return after spending six weeks in Tenerife. He looked more orange than a Liverpool Airport Easyjet stewardess. His healthy glow helped his team to a solid 82 points.
Jim Caldwell and his team receive another shot reduction after a string of great performances. They were pipped for 2nd place by the legend that is Colin Roberts(20) alongside Dave Marchant(17), Andie Frazer(14) and Andy Hamlett(10) on 86 points.
Winning their first Maxitours event for over five years were Pete Dobson(8), Dave Shuttleworth(5), Pete Moss(11) and Michael Slater(10). They had the bum draw starting in the far corner of this wonderful course on the toughest hole. Dave was the only player to score. The team dug deep and rolled in some great putts. Shuttleworths eagle on the 15th set up an eight point haul. Mike made a vital closing birdie on the tricky 6th to seal the win in style.
