Maxitours day in a million at Carden Park

Incredible Spring-like weather greeted players at Carden Park. Crystal clear blue skies and barely a breath of wind meant Mediterranean conditions were enjoyed by all.

David Llewellyn is Carden Park Club Professional and he memorably won the World Cup of golf for Wales playing alongside world number one Ian Woosnam in 1988. He gave me a few short game lessons in the 90’s and was excellent. David couldn’t believe it this morning when the starter told him every four ball turned up, especially as our guys are travelling from as far afield as Lancaster in January!
‘You must be proud of your players?’ He asked me.
‘Yes, very.’

‘What a brilliant day!’ Reported Jon Hudson after his round.

‘That was like playing golf in Portugal except without a hangover.’ Recalled Francis Dean.

‘Please, please pass on my thanks to green keeper, those greens were exceptional!’ Demanded Russell Cash.
Andy Sandham was getting romantic ‘That is a Beautiful, Beautiful course’ He gushed.

‘The sun was too bright.’ Complained Nick Lea.

I played in the European Tour school qualifying here in the late ninety’s and was paired with Warren Bladon who was the British Amateur Champion and he had played in the Masters that April. We both had a bad day but he was a bit angrier than me and hurled his wedge over his shoulder into some ferns on the 17th after a poor chip. He couldn’t find it. The other lads caddy’s eyes lit up and he went out after we finished and spent three hours up to his waist in shrubs before he found it.

Scoring was tough on this Championship course and 81 points was good enough for 4th place for Ian Kings Bramhall team of Andy Deme, Warren Newton and Steve Ellis.

3rd place went to Norrie Erwin, Jim Clarke, Graham Jackson and Vernon Hayes with an excellent 82 points. Norrie is delighted to find some form and is really looking forward to playing Hilton Head before heading to the Masters this April.

The Prestbury team of Martin Prescott, Chris Adams, Steve Best and Mark Richardson had 43 points on their back nine to take second. The likeable quartet were pipped by Bolton Old Links stars John Dempsey, Steve Booth, Danny Swarsbricka and Ben Hardman who had an impressive 44 points on the easier back nine. Well played guys 83 points is great golf on a strong course.
Thanks to everyone for your amazing attendance.

Yours in golf, Tim
