Maxitours at stunning Stockport

Stockport was in excellent condition for our event today. There were heavy localised showers overnight and in the early morning and it was even looking debatable as whether the course would open. But recent drainage work and a very positive green keeper saw us start play on time.

The greens were even cut and ironed and the bunkers were raked to perfection. Incredible.

Thanks to all the green keepers for their hard work.

There was a cool wind blowing this morning. Mark Richardson didn’t feel the cold because he was wearing his new Galvin green snood which he won recently.

‘It was so good it kept both my chins warm.’ Joked the expanding Prestbury man.

As the day went on the course was drying up before your eyes. Another thing drying up were points on John Webbs team scorecard. They were in contention with 41 points on the front nine but got blown away as the wind picked up on the closing nine as they came home in just 32.

The clubhouse food at Stockport has moved up a few levels and the caterers now serve first class hearty golf club food.

John Colquitt had the full English breakfast and it was so big he said it took him five holes to recover.

A better back nine saw a top ten finish for the likeable Sandiway man.

Those players in the middle of the field had the best conditions as the morning teams had to contend with blustery showers passing through and late in the day as the sunshine arrived so did the wind and scores plummeted.

Fourth places went to top musician Lewis Marland and his team. Lewis can stop fiddling with his organ and regularly sends me tunes he has recorded via whatsapp. He is excellent. Today he was hitting all the right notes with his putter as the team scored a solid 87 points.

High Legh’s big hitting Graham Foster, Phil Hilton, John Stanworth and Kevin Donnely made the most of the shorter course and returned 88 points to take third.

Ashton in Makerfields Tony Hope has turned himself into a top player. After a third place last week he was second this week narrowly missing out on a card play off. Brother Ben, Gary Hankinson and Lyndon Winter completed the team.

Winning today after a quiet few months was Dave Rhodes, Lee Tilley, intelligent Pate Norbury and Ian Hogg. A strong finish saw Hogg Birdie the seventeenth before Rhodes picked up a vital three points on the last hole.

Well played everyone.

Thanks for your 100% attendance.
