Maxitours at red hot Ringway

Maxitours at red hot Ringway

The sun continues to shine on Maxitours players this Spring as Meditteranean conditions hit South Manchester this afternoon.

It wasn’t a pretty sight but even Jim Clarke had his shorts on today.

The course is a cracker and fairways and greens were presented to the usual high standard expected at Ringway Golf Club. The hospitality was also first class.

‘I’ve not played at all this Winter before last week’ Declared likeable Ray Sims after dusting off his clubs.

‘Id completely forgotten how bad I am.’ He admitted. Ray played well today to be fair and helped his team to a respectable 80 points.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves on this great Manchester Golf course and it was a real pleasure to see so many happy customers.

A Maxitours first happened today. On the par three 8th hole Simon Peters chipped in for an unlikely two. Ian Hassall then downed his 18 footer closely followed by Mike Hassall whose ball flew in the hole like a rat down a drain pipe. The pressure was on a shaking Martin Mellor but he held his nerve and stroked in his ten footer as the team completed a quartet of 2’s. Terrific.

In todays event the leading scores were earlier in the day as players made the most of still conditions and receptive greens. Later in the day a breeze picked up and the greens firmed up a little.

Dave Goodwin, Phil Robinson, Dave Snape and Dave Greenwood are terrific blokes and they had their best result for a little while finishing tied third with 86 points. A score which was matched by Sandiway team of Gary Neiles, John Colquitt Charles Hewitt and James Connor.

Rob Platts Yorkshire team set off early this morning and posted 89 points, six points on the last was a great finish to their round.

Winning today was Bramhall Parks Jon Hudson, Andy Corner, Mike Hill and Rob Blain. The team recorded three two’s and all gelled really well. They only dropped a single shot all day and that was on the easy opening hole. Rob Balin was the outstanding performer as he picked up 7 shots for his team. Class. Well played chaps.

Thanks to everyone for your 100% attendance today. Ringway general manager Tracy Rawlinson is brilliant to deal with and she continues to be amazed by the integrity and reliability of all my players. Thanks so much.

Maxitours at wonderful North Wales

An incredible Spring day was enjoyed by all of today’s players at North Wales.

‘I’ve played here a lot.’ said well-travelled Steve Heywood. ‘But that was the best condition I’ve ever seen North Wales golf course – terrific!’

As well as one of the most enjoyable golf courses on the Maxitours rota Jamie the Clubhouse manager is the best in the business, food and hospitality here is exceptional. Thanks for supporting him throughout the day, he loves our event and appreciates your support.

For some reason the recent cold wind stopped blowing, there was warmth in the sun and the sky was crystal clear.

Richard Wakefield thinks Carol Kirkwood is attractive but talks nonsense – apparently she forecast a minus two wind chill – Richard was playing in his shirt sleeves as the sun shone on the lovely old Mancunian.

Govindha Sehmi is a top man and he said today was one of the best days of his life. Brilliant.

Martin Humphries was gulping down the North Wales fresh air after hyperventilating on the 5th tee after starting with two pars and two birdies. A couple of bogeys on the 5th and 6th helped him to relax and lower his heart rate.

Cheltenham was on the TV today but it was Paul O’Gara and his Bramhall team who fell at the first picking up just two points. To be fair they jumped back on the saddle and recovered well for a respectable 79 points.

The front nine was playing about 7 shots easier than the back nine. Nick Colemans Tytherington team had the best of the day 48 points on the way out before a solid 39 gave them 87 points to take third place. John Croxford, Malcolm Kendrick and Steve Dow completed the team.

Second place went to Jim Caldwell, Lee Charnley, Andrew Aherne and John Roome with 88 points. John Roome did the damage scoring over 40 points with his own ball to be the anchor man of the team.

Phil Dickens and his Heyrose team of Neil Evans, Paul Robinson and John Cross took first place with 90 points. Likeable Dickens recorded his first ever eagle on a par four after holing his seven iron on the testing tenth hole for a five pointer. The team actually dropped a shot over the three tricky closing holes but were delighted with their victory.

‘Make sure you mention my two in your write up Tim.’ Begged delirious Dickens as he exited the clubhouse.

Thanks to everyone for your support today. Superb

Maxitours at cracking Conwy

Conwy golf Club just gets better and better. In recent years new sand dunes have been created, there are lovely closely mown paths to the tees and classic looking sleepers have been placed throughout the course. Well done Conwy.
The course was excellent for March as players finished their rounds looking wind swept but with mud free shoes and trousers.

It was great to play golf past 6pm tonight. The last couple of groups enjoyed watching the sun set over the Irish sea. We are quite far West so the sun luckily sets about 6 minutes later than in my home town Knutsford. It was beautiful out there today.

On another note The Players Championship and Masters will be upon us in a couple of weeks, try not to give your green keepers too hard a time as they dread ‘Masters syndrome’ when members expect Augusta like course conditions after five months of no growth.

In todays event the course and sea breeze got the better of most teams.
Bramhalls John Owen, Gareth Bradley, Andy Bradshaw and Matt Ford weren’t getting many shots but set the early pace with 79 points.

This was pipped by three teams .
Firstly Phil Dickens team recorded 80 points, this was matched by Moor Parks Gary Leek, Mal Tomson, Stuart Smith and Alan Campbell with 80 points and a strong finish collecting 6 points on the 16th and 17th holes.

But narrowly beating them both with a superb back nine was Heswall solicitor Jim Rymer(14), Bob Mottershead(12), Dave McDougall(9) and Keith Workman(8). McDougalls birdie on the 17th hole for 4 points was a thing of beauty. The team only picked up two points on their second hole but played incredible golf on the easier back nine.

Well played chaps Superb.
Thanks for your 100% attendance everyone- incredible,

Tim
