Maxitours at lovely Lancaster

Lancaster was the beautiful setting for todays Maxitours event. The course is a cracker and was as good as I have seen it for the last ten years. Excellent work from the greens staff. The greens were rapid .
Huge thanks to Maxitours players all I ever get is positive comments about your respect for the courses we visit and your etiquette. Maxitours’ players are the best in the business!
I have been away playing for the last two weeks and Stuart Blake looked disappointed to see me. ‘Where is that good looking blonde lady?’ he enquired.
Paul Mullen only plays occasionally. ‘Where’s Tim today?’ he asked me as I gave him his card. ‘I’m Tim.’ I replied. ‘Oh yes – so you are.’
Kev Hart couldn’t believe how tricky the 15th green was. ‘You can be two feet away with a putt and end up off the green’ he declared. ‘And were you two feet away before you finished off the green Kev?.’ ‘No – but Paul Yearsley was.’
There was a spring in everyone’s step today. The election is behind us and Maxitours players were free to concentrate on their golf. Peter Fildes team still laboured and Pete Maher played too conservatively but everyone had a great day.
Last years Hopwood Captain and Lady captain Steve and Janet Heywood are lovely people ands they were on fire today alongside Chris Lee and Graham Davenport (who are also really nice). They scored 85 points on a tough course and Heywoods chip in at the last was a thing of beauty.

Brilliant to see the low handicap veteran team winning. These guys are Cheshire senior players- Martin Keates is Captain of the Cheshire team and he had six gross birdies – Six Birdies!!! Class. Simon Raine (4) Denis Greenup(5) and Ian Owens (3) are also all playing great golf in their 60’s. Well played guys.

Big thanks to Simon for handling the last part of the day- top brother.
Thanks to everyone for playing. Possibly the best day of the year so far!

Maxitours at delightful Davenport

Maxitours at Delightful Davenport

Perfect golfing conditions greeted Maxitours golfers at Davenport today. The golf course is a real favourite with my players. The setting is idyllic without any noise pollution at all except for birds tweeting and occasional the sound of a sweetly stuck pro V1 .
There are tremendous views overlooking the millions of people working in offices in Stockport and Manchester and beyond. We are so lucky to be able to play golf on days like today.

Thanks to Karen Gallagher for running the event so efficiently as always. I found some form on Friday but was back to mid table mediocrity today at Rockliffe Hall. This is a very tough game but I love it.

Anyway, less about me and on to the results.

Lewis Marland, John Cross, Mike Evans and Dave Greenwood took 3rd place with 80 points, second place went to Gary Neiles , John Colquitt, Gavin Connor and Carl Barks with 81 points but winning were Davenport members Richard Blackwell, John Hilton who teamed up with Steve Austin and Gary Smith to score 85 points. Local knowledge is crucial around this cracking course and the home team took full advantage. Well played chaps!

Maxitours at World Class Warrington

Maxitours at world class Warrington

Warrington was in superb condition for todays Maxitours event. The course is great fun to play with interesting short par threes and driveable par fours with a few tough holes thrown in to keep everyone from getting too excited.

It was lovely to see the sun shining and golfers swinging freely in the warm weather. There were plenty of smiles throughout the day.

The likeable Knutsford veteran team of David Kelly, John Atkin(the scientist), Mike McGoun and David Arthur took a surprise early lead -they were delighted and shocked with a best ever 85 points. Normally they hide away in a dark corner of the bar after their round but today they took pride of place on the sun blessed balcony confidently talking to anyone who would listen.

Positive Barry Simpson said he loved it out there. He struggled with his driving, iron play and putting but apart from that he assures me that his game is in good shape.

I’m always staggered by the generosity of maxitours players. Firstly Dave More OFarrell’s wife made me some homemade sausage rolls. Unfortunately I missed him at check in and he was hungry so he ate them himself.
Then late in the day Roy Ainsworth handed me a kit kat when he finished his round. ‘Its melted a bit in my bag but should be ok in a couple of hours’ Thanks for that Roy.

Scoring was once again very close indeed.

Three teams scored 86 points and three teams scored 87 points!

Popular Bob Pickthall finished 4th, Paul Rudkins team took 3rd and Richard Blackwells strong back nine earned them 2nd place.

Winning with 89 points was the Bramhall team of Tony O’Gara (4) Warren Newton (7) Steve Profitt (8) and John SImpson(7) they had two solid nines – out in 45 and back in 44 points. Tony held the ship steady scoring 1 over with his own ball. Well played everyone – excellent golf.

Thanks for your continued support and integrity,
Tim

Stunning Vale Royal results

Maxitours Clarion Masters results at stunning Vale Royal Abbey

Huge thanks to Clarion Wealth management for their support today. The Clarion Masters needed a fantastic venue and Vale Royal was possibly in its best ever condition for today’s Maxitours event. The hard working greenkeepers here are right on top of their game and keep the green speeds running fast and true throughout the Summer months. The golf course was immaculate.

The clubhouse also runs smoothly and golf manager Ian Embury runs a very tight ship. The golf club menu is fantastic and is a template many clubs should follow. Thanks to all staff for your brilliant hospitality.

Alex Jerman tips Tiger Woods to win the US Open this week. Woods is 150-1, can barely walk nowadays- never mind swing a club, is low on confidence, can’t play more than 36 holes in a tournament and hasn’t played since shooting hundreds at the PGA Championship last month. This doesn’t matter because Alex was behind a car this morning and it had a picture of a Tiger on the boot so this is a sign that he will definitely win. Alex also bought a can of iron bru from the pro shop and then tipped Scotland to beat Germany in the football. ‘It’s definitely worth a £1 each way’ Tipped the likeable five handicapper.

I set up my registration table in the upstairs foyer as it gets very busy in the snug members bar. I can now tell by the rate of ascent as to how good a team score is. Andy Parringtons team staggered up the steps in a climb of shame after a dismal 70 points. Jamie Lloyd needed his inhaler when he reached the top after a 65 point mauling but eighteen stone Mick Mahon skipped up the stairs after playing well in his teams 83 points as they finished 3rd.

Scoring was again very low reflecting the fantastic integrity and class of all my players. Thanks very much indeed. For 85 points to win in a four man team event in lovely sunny conditions is unheard of on other tours or open events. I love you guys.
.
Second place went to Prestburys Lee Charnley, John Kelsall, Jim Caldwell and Simon Woolley who were first out and recorded 84 points.

Mick Mahons Lancashire quartet took 3rd with 83 points and Pete Walters team took a career best 4th place with 82 points -they were delighted. It was Wilmslow’s likeable Alex Jerman(5), Pete Fotheringham(16), Don Campbell(4) returning from injury and Steve Jones(11) who took the honours with 85 points. Jerman and Campbell rattled in the birdies and Steve and Pete used their shots wisely. Their six point haul at the last secured a historic win. Well played team.

Thanks again for your tremendous support everyone.
