Maxitours at superb Shrigley Hall

Thanks to Shrigley Hall for stepping forward to host todays Maxitours event. The course was very dry and everyone enjoyed the fantastic greens.

The clubhouse overlooks the 18th tee and the huge lake which separates the tee from the 18th green. I think I watched everyones tee shoy and nobody went in the water. Very impressive indeed.

John Sherringham must be really struggling with his golf. He has watched every golf tuition ever made and has every swing aid imaginable. He is that distressed he told me that he has now resorted to modelling his game on my swing because he videoed me on the range a few months ago. This is a whole new level of desperation I have never come across before.

Careful car owner Nigel Ashton is terrified of anyone denting his sporty BMW. He always turns up two hours before his tee time so he can find a quiet spot in the car park as far away from any other cars as is possible. He actually has traffic cones in his boot to prevent any cars getting too close. He loves playing at Shrigley hall as the car park is huge. He looked shattered before he teed off after the huge walk from the far side of the carpark to the clubhouse. The course is no easy walk either so the seventy year old will sleep tonight. Another man who will sleep well is Scotsman Geiorge Kerr. His heavy electric trolley broke down after nine holes and he pushed his way home.

Yorkshireman Mike Dempsey won some balls and had to share them will his team. As he handed them out I could feel his pain. What made it tougher was he was handing them out to his team mate from the Highlands- Hamish Ogilvie.

‘Scotsmen are like Yorkshireman with the generosity taken out.’ Mike informed me.

Scoring was excellent with Ex Manchester golf Club Captains Steve and Janet Heywood guiding their team into 3rd place with 85 points. Team Mate Graham Davenport turned up on the 1st tee covered in blood after banging his head on his car boot- he never played so well. Chris Lee was the 4th member.

Geoff Bickerton , Mark Foley, Steve Booth and Kev Hart took the early lead with a terrific 87 points but late in the day Maxitours regular Andy Corner(11) , Peter Reynolds(10), Rob Blain(13) and Rob Cressey(20) had a terrific 88 points for their first win of the Winter. Congratulations chaps!

Maxitours at really dry Reddish Vale

Huge thanks to Reddish Vale. Their golf course was truly outstanding today.

Everyone finished with mud free trousers. Everyone except Mark Daniels who loves to keep a bit of mud on his pants and shoes throughout the year.

‘It’s good luck not to clean your golf trousers.’ He informed me.

Mike Baker was last match out. He kindly rang me to let me know who won nearest the pin on the 12th so I didn’t have to go out to pick up the marker.

‘Who won it Mike?’

‘I did!’ He replied happily.

‘And who won nearest the pin at the 9th ?’

‘I’ve absolutely no idea and I don’t care.’

If you want cheering up don’t play a round with Geoff Bickerton. He smiled a couple of weeks ago but it may have been wind. After he handed his card in today he had a look at an old picture hanging on the clubhouse wall.

‘Most of these guys will be dead.’ He announced.

Thanks for that Geoff.

He is a nice bloke and a great golfer to be fair.

In todays competition retired Doctor James Shipstone helped his team recover after a two point score on the 9th . They had a solid back nine to take 2nd place on 83 points. John Hunt(12), Graham Foster(11) and Taxi Pete(17) completed the team.

Jim Caldwell was eighty on Monday. He stretches every morning and goes to the gym in the evening is still playing off an impressive 11 handicap and never looks any older. He is maxitours answer to Ken Barlow.

His team bought him an £800 bottle of 1944 bottle of port as a thank you for his generosity over the years. He capped off his birthday with 84 points today which was good enough to win. Dan McIntyre(9), Don Bailey(9) and John Roome(15) completed the team. Congratulations chaps!

Thanks to everyone for playing- I’m sure you had a great day.

Just one change to the schedule this Monday when we play at Shrigley Hall rather than Bramhall. Hopefully normality will resume starting at lovely Llangollen on Friday.

Yours in golf,

Tim.

Maxitours at Reddish Vale

The forty or so Maxitours players who travelled to Reddish really enjoyed the warm dry weather. The thirteen holes were in great condition and Cheshire senior Captain Gareth Bradley loved every minute playing golf on an excellent Mackenzie designed golf course.

‘It is just great to be out there playing golf’ Declared Paul Salt and this was echoed by many players throughout the day.

Regular player Sam Leach looked delighted to see me after recent rain and cancellations. ‘I thought we would never meet again.’

Father Christmas loving Gary Smith and his team finished 4th losing out on a card play off. He just returned from holiday in Oslo where he ate reindeer. Serves him right.
Dave Griffiths enjoyed playing 13 holes today. He normally picks up on five holes a round so the format suited his golf. He finished in 3rd place playing alongside Jim Dempsey, Chris Bracchi and Tom Bane. The team scored one point and lost 5 balls on their first hole of the day but showed great grit and finished 3rd with 58 points. Love it.

Football goalkeeping legend Joe Corrigans son Andy led his team into 2nd with 61 points, Gary Leek, Malcolm Bates and Stuart Smith completed the team.

Gary Neiles and his Sandiway team enjoyed playing on full greens and they recorded a great score of 63 to take 1st place. John Longworth, Gain Connor and Martin Mullineax all played some excellent golf.
Thanks to everyone for travelling today, I am glad you had a great day.
Yours in golf,
Tim.

Maxitours

Dear Maxitours player

I have just had an update from a member and the top 5 holes are closed and the bottom 13 are on temporary greens. It rained again all night .

I am just waiting to speak to someone to confirm this is the case.

Tim 😢
