Maxitours at Excellent Ringway

Everything about Ringway Golf Club was absolutely top notch today.

The greens were flawless and running fast and true. The fairways were lush and tightly cut. The refurbished Clubhouse looked superb and the service throughout the day was spot on. The girls behind the bar were absolutely brilliant with my guys and it was refreshing to see they were never short of a smile. They even laughed at one of John Hilditch’s jokes, which is a first.

Thanks to Club manager Tracy and everyone at this friendly Club for your hospitality today. Brilliant.

Frank Hindle is a great bloke and Maxitours players may know him fondly as ‘The moaning Lancastrian’. He has been ill recently after a minor stroke but it is great to see him back to full fitness. His team mates think that since his episode he has forgotten what a bad golfer he was for many years. He now thinks he is a player and even made a two today. The team were delighted to finish in 7th place. Welcome back Frank.

Sarah Ormrod (16) is one of the most attractive players in Maxitours history. She scored 21 points on her own on the front nine and helped her team take 2nd place with 84 points. Dave Crompton(10), Dave Greenwood(11) and Nigel Hallows(8) watched on in awe.

Winning today were the less attractive but no less popular Sale quartet of Simon Poucher(12), Neil Simpson(14), last years excellent Captain David Carlile(18) and Brendan Leighton(18). They were having a steady round before finishing with 7 points on the 17th and 6 points on the last to catapult themselves through the field and earn a first victory for nearly five years, Well played chaps.

We had over 150 players today and there was once again not a single no show. Thank you very much for your integrity.
Yours in golf,
Tim

Maxitours at beautiful Vale Royal

Maxitours visited Vale Royal Golf Course today. According to the knowledgeable Mick Mahon ‘It just keeps getting better and better!’
A few players had never played at Vale Royal before and they were rightly impressed with the Abbey and the terrific course:
‘This looks great. I’m really looking forward to my round!’ said an excited Pete Alsop who doesn’t get out of his native Buxton very much.
‘That was absolutely gorgeous!’ Reported Max Henderson. ‘I’ll be back!’

Thanks to all the staff at this five star venue for your excellent servce.

Golf is a great social game. In fact, the only time Trevor Nicholson speaks to his long-lost brother is when he finishes last in a Maxitours event and his brother rings him to catch up and take the mickey. Turn your phone off tonight Trevor.

One Maxitours player who can’t be named told me he is putting incredibly well after a private putting lesson with his wife on the kitchen floor. I’m not sure whether wife was on the kitchen floor or he was rolling the ball on the kitchen floor or both. But whatever he is doing -keep it up.

In a magical Maxitours day there were two holes in one! Pete Walters holed a superb eight iron on the 16th hole and even Jim Comerford managed an ace – a lovely five iron on the tricky 6th . Congratulations.
Even more impressive was Jim Caldwell who holed two full wedge shots for eagles on the 3rd and 13th holes. – Nice!

In today’s event Simon Wilkinson’s likeable Birchwood team had a terrific 46 points on their back nine to record a seasons best 3rd place finish. Even John Linsky(17) played well. John Fitzsimons(7) was solid and Colin Berry(12) saved his best golf until his closing holes -making vital pars on the 17th and 18th .

Jim Caldwell’s eagle heroics helped his team take 2nd spot also with 87 points , they managed to score 47 points on the back nine to just take 2nd place. Bob Picthall,(13) Peter Griggs(16) and Jon Hume(14) completed the competitive quartet.

Before he went out I had a great chat with Ashton on Mersey nice guy Chris Brownhill who had spent a morning working at the airport. He was telling me how he services planes when they land at Manchester before taking off again. If you have a spare thirty minutes, he will happily tell you all about it. His golf really took off today and his team had their first win for 3 years with an impressive 88 points. Twelve handicapper Gary Hempstead(14) had three birdies with shots to do some damage and Pete Hamlett(6) and Gary Arrowsmith(9) also contributed well.

Well played chaps
Thanks to all players for your support.

Yours in Golf,
Tim.

Maxitours at stunning Stockport

Stockport has always been a first class golfing venue with high quality catering and excellent professional staff. There is now even more of a buzz about the Club as the golf course is back to its very best.
‘That was superb!’ Declared a very satisfied Andy Veitch.
‘Brilliant greens- they were so fast and true -even after all the recent rain’. Reported Colin Roberts.

Two years ago after a wet Summer Stockport was waterlogged in places but today with all the drainage work and a superb new greenkeeper the course was incredibly dry. Excellent.

It was great for Maxitours players to play golf in the sunshine all day. (except a 10 minute heavy downpour) A great day was enjoyed by all. Pace of play was excellent with the last team getting around in 3 hours 50 minutes!- Thanks everyone.

If you think you are going through a bad patch with your golf at the moment please spare a thought for Dale Wallace. He turned up today after I hadn’t seen him for a few years. He was never the most positive person I have ever met but things were at a new low.
I asked him if he was playing well.
‘I have had the worst three years golfing of my life.’ He answered.

I have just returned from holiday in America and am struggling to write any funny stories as I am still jet lagged. I did overhear Ian Appletons team having a laugh. ‘Jokes about white sugar are quite rare but jokes about brown sugar – demerara!’

In today’s event incredibly 8 teams scored exactly 78 points. Colin Roberts team took the early lead with 81 points and eventually finished in a respectable 7th place.

Jim Clarkes(11) team of Maxitours regulars have been quiet for a few months but today they returned to form with 85 points and a second place finish. He played with his more talented son Chris(14), and the athletic duo of Graham Jackson(6) and Pete Ledger(18).

Also on 85 points but narrowly missing out on 2nd place due to a card play-off was the Saddleworth team of Dave Pullan playing with his two sons Stephen(2) and Ben(2) alongside Mr nice guy, Dean Jagger. (7)

Duckinfield’s Neale Laurent(13) can pick a team and the ex copper brought fellow members Jack Schofield(10) Adam Thomas(13) and Denton legend Matt Sayers(1) with him today. Neil only came in on the card twice as the team scored an impressive 86 points to take 1st place. Matt had 5 birdies but Adam Thomas was the danger man picking up four shots for his team on the back nine . Well played chaps great golf.

Thanks to everyone for your support.

Tim.

Reddish results

Results from Reddish Vale

Many thanks to England Coach of the Year 2018 Matt Turnock for running my event today:
The challenging venue of Reddish Vale played host to the rearranged Didsbury fixture at short notice and considering the recent weather the course played absolutely brilliantly with lots of positive comments about the greens and general condition.

Ever friendly and welcoming Pro Andrew Myers was extremely helpful and accommodating along with the catering and bar staff who were very appreciative of the Maxitours event.

Hero Hale member Martin Bramwell certainly didn’t leave his team up the creek without a paddle with a splendid individual effort helping his team to a respectable 80 points. He was recently involved in river rescue after some canoeists had lost their paddle in the fast flowing river waters that run by one of the holes at Hale Golf Club. They had to abandon the rest of their adventure and walk back across the course with their canoe after Martin and others assisted them.

The last hole (heart attack hill as it’s fondly known to the locals) certainly took its toll with quite a few teams coming a cropper on this “face of the Eiger” finishing hole. Grappling hooks and crampons are not uncommon.

Scoring was very tight at the top with 88 point winners Bob Pickthall, Rob Roden, Bob Day and Dave Thomas just pipping the next teams down by a single point.
