Results from Superb Sand Moor

Maxitours at SUPERB Sand Moor !!

Maxitours players were treated to a gloriously sunny day at the historic Sand Moor Golf Club.

So many who hadn’t played here before were singing the praises of what a fantastic course it was and how they would like to come back again.

Scoring wasn’t easy but that didn’t stop some great individual shots from Mick Jones scoring an eagle 2 on the par 4 4th hole and Janet Heywood hitting a career shot to within a foot on the par 3 17th hole.

The team scores were tight at the top but ultimately Moby & Cath Rawthore, Steve Best and John Davies came out on top with a fantastic 88 points.

Thanks again to my good friend Matt Turnock for running yesterday’s event, he eventually got his laptop charger fixed.

Maxitours at stunning Stockport

Another beautiful Spring day greeted Maxitours competitors at Stockport today.

Callum in the pro shop is a top man and always a friendly face when you visit this lovely club and he kindly put out the markers for me. The clubhouse is mid renovation and should raise this clubs standing even further when it opens this Saturday. The improvements look very impressive.

Thanks to all at Stockport for your hospitality today.

There were a couple of 4 balls who had travelled down from the far North – Blackburn and Clitheroe. They came with woolly jumpers and waterproofs.
‘By eck even the blossums out down here! Cheshires a lot waymer than Lancashire.’ Observed overheating Ralph Postlethwaite.

Martin Mellor is a brilliant bloke and always optimistic.
‘I played rubbish today but on the bright side the time on my trolley was correct for the first time in 6th months now that the clocks have gone back so that’s a win.’

In todays event scoring was incredibly tight with 4 teams sharing 4th place on 85 points. It was great to see vivacious seventy year old Joyce Larkin back in the prizes.

Bramhalls Tony O’Gara, Steve Profitt, John Simpson and quick witted Andy Southam took third place with 86 points.

Winning the card play off were the Hale team of Chris Ravenscroft, John Webb, Martin Quinn and Bob Siddall. This is not a misprint. These guys are usually struggling to get 72 points but today they were on fire. Webby has just returned from playing Sawgrass and he contributed well. Even Chris Ravenscroft made a two on the 5th hole. Excellent.

Overall winners was Richard Blackwell, Steve Austin, Gary Smith and John Hilton with 89 points. A third win of the winter for this competitive quartet sees them move up the order of merit and also sees them receive a big handicap reduction for the summer ahead. Well played guys a great performance on a stunning golf course.

Maxitours at red hot Ringway

The sun continues to shine on Maxitours players this Spring as Meditteranean conditions hit South Manchester this afternoon.

It wasn’t a pretty sight but even Jim Clarke had his shorts on today.

The course is a cracker and fairways and greens were presented to the usual high standard expected at Ringway Golf Club. The hospitality was also first class.

‘I’ve not played at all this Winter before last week’ Declared likeable Ray Sims after dusting off his clubs.

‘Id completely forgotten how bad I am.’ He admitted. Ray played well today to be fair and helped his team to a respectable 80 points.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves on this great Manchester Golf course and it was a real pleasure to see so many happy customers.

A Maxitours first happened today. On the par three 8th hole Simon Peters chipped in for an unlikely two. Ian Hassall then downed his 18 footer closely followed by Mike Hassall whose ball flew in the hole like a rat down a drain pipe. The pressure was on a shaking Martin Mellor but he held his nerve and stroked in his ten footer as the team completed a quartet of 2’s. Terrific.

In todays event the leading scores were earlier in the day as players made the most of still conditions and receptive greens. Later in the day a breeze picked up and the greens firmed up a little.

Dave Goodwin, Phil Robinson, Dave Snape and Dave Greenwood are terrific blokes and they had their best result for a little while finishing tied third with 86 points. A score which was matched by Sandiway team of Gary Neiles, John Colquitt Charles Hewitt and James Connor.

Rob Platts Yorkshire team set off early this morning and posted 89 points, six points on the last was a great finish to their round.

Winning today was Bramhall Parks Jon Hudson, Andy Corner, Mike Hill and Rob Blain. The team recorded three two’s and all gelled really well. They only dropped a single shot all day and that was on the easy opening hole. Rob Balin was the outstanding performer as he picked up 7 shots for his team. Class. Well played chaps.

Maxitours at perfect Prestatyn

I hope you had a great day in the Welsh sunshine.

Prestatyn Golf Club and their friendly staff are always a great host. This is possibly the most underrated course in Wales and it is always a pleasure to be welcomed back to play this classic links.

Thanks also to my brother Simon for running the day, he is the nicest bloke you could ever wish to meet.

Congratulations to popular winners Phil Dickens, Paul Robinson, Neil Evans and John Cross who take first place with 83 points on a glorious but breezy spring day

They beat the very talented Colin Roberts and his team, Moby Rawthore and his Sale team and Richard Blackwell and his Davenport team who all shared 2nd just one shot back.
