Things are incredibly tight at the top of the Shotsaver sponsored Order of Merit. Malc Wells is struggling to sleep at night with Martin Firth, Gary Garner, Mark Green and Bob Vickers all breathing heavily down his neck.
The top ten in the Final Order of Merit will contest the famous 9 hole Maxitours Shotsaver shootout at Knutsford in April.
All ten players tee off together and one player gets eliminated after each hole.

Fantastic Ringway results

**The Latest Shotsaver order of merit and Thursdays Prestbury times released tomorrow**

Maxitours at fantastic Ringway

It felt like the long winter had finally ended with a glorious Spring day in Manchester . The course was once again presented in excellent condition for todays event. Even the attractive Club secretary Fiona Cornelius makes a real effort and always puts on her Thursday-best outfit to welcome the Maxitours golfers to Ringway.

Lots of todays competitors needed to dust down their golf caps both to keep the sun out of their eyes and more importantly to prevent any unfortunate head burn. This could well be the first season when even I am resigned to needing a cap on sunny days. Iain Bartholomew is also trying to develop a positive attitude to his hair loss ‘its not that I’m going bald I’m just developing one hell of a centre parting!’ he blubbed.

Joe Kirwan(5) felt like Rafa Benitez today when his partners booed him after failing to par the easy 10th hole, causing his team to drop a shot. Not one to take things personally however gutsy Kirwan made 3 birdies on his back nine to appease his team and secure a ‘best of the season’ second place finish. Darren Whittaker(14), Frank Kaminski(16) and Ian King(9) made up the strong Bramall team.

Aging John Grint(17), Dick Perry(14), Derek Fulluck(14) and Brian Mottram(16) normally focus their efforts on finishing 18 holes. Occasionally the have been known to feature in the over 60’s section on Maxitours. Today in the Spring sunshine they forgot all about their war wounds and teamed up magnificently to finish 3rd on 82 points. Good looking Grint tried hard to hide the look of surprise on his face after he made a magnificent birdie on the 4th hole which was the highlight of their terrific round.

Todays winners were the big hitting team of Charles Herbert(15), Andy Stubbens(5), Martin Firth(4) and Andy Bethell(14). Ex marine Andy Stubbens recorded three birdies to be the main contributor to their great score of 85 points, Martin Firth and Andy Bethell also played very well. Charles Herbert was the week link today, in fact the first time he got on the card was when it dropped out of his back pocket on the 16th and he accidently trod on it.

Many thanks to all players for your terrific support once again today.

Yours in golf, Tim.

Outstanding Conwy and Ringway start sheet (Thursday 28th)

***Maxitours Terrific new Summer Schedule released tomorrow***

www.maxitoursgolf.com

Maxitours at truly outstanding Conwy.

The golf season will soon be upon us when Justin Rose wins the US Masters in just six weeks time (free tip), but the stunning weather and terrific course conditions at Conwy today will rival anything Augusta could ever produce. ‘That was outstanding’ was the general consensus, ‘Links Golf at its very, very best.’

Colin Lynch looked a bit shaken as he entered the Conwy clubhouse after he scared himself flying down the A55 at 140mph in his salmon pink Ferrari. Joe Kirwan also looked a bit unsteady on his legs as he entered the clubhouse after a ‘quiet’ couple of days with his wife Kath in romantic Snowdonia.

The last time John Stubbs played at a damp Conwy he was devastated when lost a couple of balls in a lake on the saturated 5th fairway. Never one to miss an opportunity today he packed his wellington boots but was disappointed to see that the firm fast running links fairways were back to their very best.

There was some wonderful golf today by some of the higher handicap golfers on the tour. Maxitours regular Colin Roberts(18) amazed his playing partners when he began his round with two excellent birdies including a nearest the pin on the second. Paul Bayley (19) amazed himself when he played Conwys tough last four holes in one under par. ‘that is the best course I have ever played’ said Paul, before talking me shot by shot through his finish.

Ian King also enjoyed his round, ‘I hit some really great shots today, and a terrific drive down the middle of the 17th fairway’ ‘Did you hit the green in two?’ I asked ‘no a bush got in the way of my backswing’ he replied.

Ex Sunderland footballing legend Michael Gray(15) enjoyed playing his first Maxitours at Conwy today ‘I was more nervous than when I won my five caps for England ’ said the likeable Geordie and he was delighted with 12th place alongside Warren Newton(13).

Paul Dalby(4) and Paul Sherlock(6) were four under par betterball as these two classy players really took advantage of the benign conditions to finish in third position. Didsbury friends and even better players Phil Vokes(4) and Kevin Hamilton(scr) finished second, also on 45 points, however an excellent 25 points on the back nine saw them take second place.

Dave Marchant(13) and Ian Tinling(18) were todays winners with a magnificent 46 points. Tinling was busy rummaging for his ball in the heavy gorse to the right of the 18th fairway leaving his partner Dave ‘Kaymer’ Marchant to confidently knock in a vital three foot putt to secure the biggest win of their disappointing career.

Many thanks to all for playing today, Tim.

Maxitours Mere results + TUESDAYS CONWY times

*Spaces at Conwy on Tuesday*

Maxitours at the accommodating Mere Resort!

Mere Golf resort came to the rescue today after a late cancellation by the Delamere Forest greenkeeper who felt the course was unplayable due to extremely heavy overnight rain and snow.

Eighty players made the short journey down the A556 to The fantastic Mere Resort- playground of the rich and famous. The competitors all enjoyed playing in warm Spring-like conditions incredibly just 24 hours after a blanket of snow covered the North West.

Bob Sutton has really struggled with his game for a couple of years. The last time he played at the Mere his game was so bad his playing partners suggested he could jump in the Lake to drown his sorrows. Bob was about to take his shoes and socks off when he realised it would be a waste of time as he wouldn’t be able to keep his head down for long enough. Today he was delighted with 34th position playing alongside David ‘the digger’ Fellowes.

Valentines Day was extra special this year for close friends John Anderson(8) and Dave Stanhope(11). They enjoyed viewing the lovely snowdrops and crocuses together on the course, this was followed by a romantic drink in the clubhouse after their round to celebrate an impressive 5th position with 43 points.

Frank Massey(11) and Pete O’Neill(3) gained some important order of Merit points as they finished in fourth place just behind the consistent Gary Garner(7) and Mark Green(12) also with 44 points but a better back nine.

Wild hitting Charles Herbert(15) has destroyed his fair share of daffodils over the years however he continued his recent good form with an excellent score of 45 points to take second place playing alongside the likeable Brian Hopkins(6).

Taking first place today with a terrific 46 points was John Bent(4) and Jon Aikenhead(13). Benty was on fire and he incredibly birdied the 6th 7th and 8th holes to score heavily on the front nine. Very well played chaps.

Thanks to everyone for your support after such a late venue change.
