Results from The Algarvian Classic final day at the very sunny South Course
Wow! Another incredible days golf in January on The Algarve.
Scoring was excellent on the historic Qunita do Lago South course. The Portuguese Open has been played here on several occasions but this was possibly the biggest event they have hosted in recent times.
Mick Mahons team set the Clubhouse lead with their best of the week performance with an excellent 79 point haul. This was eventually good enough for 3rd place overall.
The Mere team thought a score of 80 or above could be good enough to take the trophy back to their mansions by the lake. As it was Alan Baxter, Gary Corbett, Tony Baldwin and Dave Mulligan had a tremendous start -7 under through six – but stalled a little and did indeed score 80- but it could have been much better.
Retaining their title of Algarvian Champions were the fearless Prestbury team of Chris Adams, Martin Prescott, Gary Titchen and Mark Richardson. They dropped shots on the first two holes as their lead was cut to one before Prescott birdied the tough 3rd to settle any nerves. They scored 83 points to take the title in style.

There was not a single issue all week apart from a frantic Tony Baldwin messaging me as he lost his nine iron on day 2 on the North course. I was back in my room trying to have a hard-earned sleep but decided to go to the course to help him try and find his club. I was driving past the 6th green when he then messaged me to say he found it – in his bag.
