Maxitours at Alaster Mackenzies wonderful Reddish Vale

Reddish Vale was presented in superb condition for todays event. Respected head green keeper Arron incredibly only has 2 other members on his team. They are real grafters and cut and ironed the greens and prepared all bunkers for us before the first fourball teed off just before 9.30am.
‘Those greens were really excellent!’ Declared experienced Lancashire Senior player Simon Raines. ‘Absolutely Superb for mid-October.’ There were plenty of positive comments throughout the day which is always good to hear.

‘That is just a great course.’ Was all Bob Kelsall could say.

Frank Greening was tying his shoe laces this morning and I could see he had no studs left in his well-worn shoes.
‘I think you need those studs changing Frank!’ I informed him using all the knowledge gained from my 35 years as a golf professional.
‘Not to worry.’ He replied.
When he finished his round he had a muddy smear mark up his back.
‘Did you slip Frank?’
‘Yes.’
‘Not to worry.’ I added.

Mike Baker played today. He’s a great bloke and has sponsored European Tour professionals and played golf all over the world. He had a birthday recently. ‘Did you get anything nice?’ I asked him.
‘My wife used to take me to the best links courses in the world for my birthday present. Now she just buys me Links deodorant.’ I think he was joking.

In todays’ event there were excellent scores from several teams. Even Dave Smith’s Hale team scored 80 points.
Manchester United fans Lee Tilley(11), Dave Sarsfield(17), Dave Rhodes(14) and Pete Norbury(17) have given themselves three years to turn their golf around and things looked up today as they took third place with 83 points.
Clitheroe low handicap players Simon Raine(40, Denis Greenup(2), Phil Cort (5)and Roland Horridge (11) took second with 84 points. Excellent golf.
Leading the way was eighty year old Dave Cooper(18) from Wrexham, Paul Fell(5), Colin Bryan(8) and Paul Nightingale(8) with 85 points. The likeable quartet teed off early this morning and were delighted with their score. ‘We even left a few out there.’ Said modest Fell.

Thanks to everyone for your 100% attendance.
Really appreciate it as always.
Thanks Tim

Dear Maxitours players,

Thank you for your terrific support this Summer once again your terrific reliability and integrity each week is immensely appreciated.

Attached is the Maxitours Winter/Spring Schedule 2025/26. I am delighted to offer you twenty three events on nineteen terrific golf courses with the free draining Carden Park and a two day Yorkshire Classic added to the schedule.

I hope you will enjoy playing in these events just as much as I enjoy running them.

Your respect for the host course, support of the host caterer and the traditions of the game means we are welcomed back to the best golf courses that the North West has to offer year after year.

The 9th Algarvian Masters team events at Quinta do Lago North, South and Laranjal take place in January (still spaces) and February (full). Life is too short not to play golf in the sun this Winter! I am also taking 24 golfers on the trip of a lifetime to the Masters and Hilton Head. There is still room for 8 lucky players.

Finally, huge thanks to Keith Thompson and his quality team from Clarion Wealth Management for his continued support.

Results from fantastic Vale Royal

Spaces at Llangollen next week – a beautiful and brilliant Autumn course!!

Maxitours at fantastic Vale Royal.

Vale Royal is now a premier course in Cheshire and a firm favourite with my players. It oozes class from the moment you drive into the property.

I first played here in 1998 and there were saplings everywhere. It has now matured into a classic Cheshire Parkland course and is fantastic to play. The clubhouse is as good as it gets.
Thanks to Ian Embury and everyone at this venue for looking after us so well today. The food and hospitality was excellent.

Maxitours regular Richard Williamson loves his golf and he plays 3 times a week.
‘I bet you can’t wait to watch the Ryder Cup?’ I asked him.
‘ Not really, I cant get too excited about it to be honest.’
There must be something wrong with him. I can’t sleep I am so excited. Come on Luke and the lads.

Paul Evans has entered the Algarvian Classic to break up the Winter blues. He has been on the past four trips and loves it but normally finishes last. This year he has hand-picked a team and confidently decided to give them a run out today. When he handed the card in they were in last place with 70 points.
‘Is it too late to pull out?.’

Ted Lacey is the Alexander Isak of golf. He played for two different teams in this weeks event. His terrible lack of loyalty meant he left Graham Jenkinson’s team with whom he finished 22nd and thought he upgraded to Andy Taylors team – unfortunately they finished 32nd today.

Pete Anstis and his Ringway team look quite intelligent but the on-course nearest the pin marker is a tube and the paper where you write your name is in the tube. They were all completely baffled by this latest technology.

In todays event The Yorkshire team of Rob Platt, Tom Broadhead, Tim Barstow and Darren Wilson came over from Barnsley and chopped their way to an impressive 87 points to take first place.
Martin Hammans Sale team were 2nd and Colin Roberts took 3rd.

In the overall two-day event 13 teams played both days and coming out on top in a hard fought contest was Colin Roberts, Steve Jones, Ian Snape and Dr Andy Williamson. They followed up their 84 points on Tuesday with another 84 today to win on their ‘last 18 hole’ card play off. Congratulations!

Gary Neiles, John Longworth, John Colquitt and Martin Molyneaux have been runners up three times this year and were gutted to narrowly miss out again.
Well played everybody.

Paul Fell recorded a two on the par four 14th hole and will talk you through it if you ask him.
Thanks for your unrivalled support,
Tim
