Results from classy Crewe!

Maxitours at classy Crewe Golf Club.

Crewe was tremendously enjoyable to play this afternoon. The weather was great and course is a favourite of mine, incredibly well designed and interesting. The par three 8th is one of the finest short holes in Cheshire.

The James Braid course was built as the expanding railway provided the locals with plenty of money to invest in the increasingly popular game. The nearby famous Rolls Royce factory also provided a steady stream of members before production finished there in 2002. The course sits in the middle of nowhere so is a really peaceful location to enjoy playing golf.

Three Bramhall teams played today, this is the start of their Christmas celebrations and all three teams finished in the top ten. They were heading out for a beer tonight. Three teams from Eaton also played but they might be having a quiet night in after occupying three of the bottom four spots.

Scoring was excellent as players scored heavily on the shortened holes and enjoyed putting on the freshly cut smooth greens.
Dave Goodwin, Phil Robinson, Richard Williamson and Dave Snape are great blokes and they took third with a season best 88 points. They kept hanging around the registration table – are we still winning? Have we won? No.

Heyrose members Paul Robinson(21), Neil Pemberton(14), Tom Faulkner(11) and Sean Haskins(9) had a terrific 91point haul which looked good enough to win, Paul and Neil made great pars on their closing hole to pick up 6 points.

Unfortunately for them they were pipped by Paul Fell(6), Nigel Ashton(11), Stuart Rogers(8) and Colin Bryan(8) who scored an impressive 92 points. This team is ever present in my events and have had a very barren Summer and Autumn, they were delighted to win the final event before Christmas however. There were five par 3’s on the course today and Fell birdied a Maxitours record four of them! Even Nigel Ashton played superbly. Well played chaps excellent golf.

Thanks to everyone for all your support this year. Keep enjoying your golf and the friendships you have. We are all very lucky indeed.

Happy Christmas! Tim, Suzy, Ella and James.

Results from Reddish Vale

Tomorrow is the final day to let me know if you want a week in the sun this Jan/Feb playing three of the best courses in Europe. I can squeeze just 1 more team into each event! Life is too short to get cold and miserable this Winter.

Maxitours at wonderful Reddish Vale

The Reddish Vale course was in fine condition for todays Maxitours event. The drainage here is incredible and any rain finds its way straight into the beautiful river Thame. Head green keeper Aran, Golf manager Alan Booth and golf pro Andy Myers are all at the top of their game and look after us incredibly well.

This is a little wildlife haven in the middle of Stockport. The river is full of fish and the trees are alive with birds. Otters were spotted along the river bank last year. Although it could possibly have been a local cat that swims very well and has a sharp haircut.

The day started in sunshine but rain moved in at 1pm and the final few groups found it tough going.

The best scores therefor were all from the early morning groups.

One of the nicest guys in the golf industry is Andy Parrington from Withington Golf Club and he helped his team into a best of the season 2nd place. Andy Taylor, Ted Lacey and Steve Green all contributed well.

Winning was Jon Hudson’s Bramall Park team with an excellent 87 point return. Jon is another regular Maxitours player and this is the first win in well over a year for the charismatic quartet. Brilliant.

Thanks to everyone for playing today.

Yours in golf, Tim

MAXITOURS AT “FRESH AND CRISP” CROSLAND HEATH

Many thanks again to my good friend PGA Pro Matt Turnock from Mottram Hall for running my event today whilst I was away in Turkey playing in with my partner from Knutsford G.C.

A frosty and crisp start to the morning was quickly thawed out by the brilliant clear sunny skies and with very little wind it was a pleasure to be out on such a nice day for the Maxitours contingent.

Those who played here last winter distinctly recounted the strong winds and rain sweeping across the course so were grateful of a enjoying the course more this time round.
A big thanks also to the clubhouse staff headed by Toby Garrett, their hospitality and catering was second to none however the ravenous Maxitours players apparently cleared them out completely of bacon and sausage baps !!!!

The scoring was very tight in the end with the team of Gary Owen, Same Beverley, Alistair Holloway and Alan Gayle coming out on top on a card countback better back 9.
Thanks for all your support,
I enjoyed running the day,
Matt.
