*Another team spot just filled at the Algarvian Classic 1 on 16th January – 2 team spots left for this amazing event in the Portuguese sunshine.

Maxitours at Vale Royal

Day one of the Cheshire Classic saw us visit the superb Vale Royal Golf Club.

A gloomy start then gave way to glorious sunshine at 11.30am and as temperatures rose so did the scores.

‘That is a well designed golf course.’ Declared likeable Martin Humphries. ‘Its brilliant and getting better.’
‘Cracking golf course. It’s a real favourite of mine.’ Announced John Webb who has played all the greatest courses in the world.
I haven’t had quite so many great comments for a long time as Vale Royal was loved by all.

Ian Embury runs a tight ship and his staff were a real credit to him as we were looked after like kings throughout the day.

Scoring was tight with 4 teams on 82 points all looking forward to making their moves tomorrow.
Gary Neiles wins todays event but isn’t paying at Hazel Grove

Full report and prize breakdowns after Day 2 tomorrow. (no team can win more than 1 prize)

It is all to play for!!

Maxitours at Charming Chorley

*Room for singles, pairs or teams of 4 at Vale Royal on Weds and Hazel Grove on Thursday- two class courses!!* DON’T MISS OUT!

Maxitours at charming Chorley

A brilliant day was enjoyed by all at Chorley. So many players were playing here for the first time and there was lots and lots of praise for the golf course. For any players who missed this venue -we will be back!

There was a constant stream of compliments for the Chorley greens which are a superb surface and still running at a wonderfully fast pace. The green staff should be very proud.

‘Those greens were magnificent. If you hit a good putt on the right line you couldn’t miss. Unfortunately, we are so bad we couldn’t hit it on the right line!’ Admitted honest Richard Williamson.

‘I’ve not payed here before – that’s a cracking golf course!’ Declared well-travelled Jeremy Waterhouse.

Catering was also fantastic with the bacon butties right up there with the best in the North. Thanks to PGA pro Andy Palmer for hosting us so well and being incredibly helpful.

Slim England senior player Cath Rawthore also had a great day today, not only did she play well, her husband Moby payed for her golf and but he then treated her to big cornet on the way home from Fredericks famous ice cream shop at the bottom of the golf course. ‘I don’t even like ice cream!’ She claimed whilst munching on her flake.

I shall pay my annual visit to Fredericks as soon as this report is sent.

Mick Mahon has lost a few pounds and smartened up his appearance in the past few months. He is even thinking about taking up pilates like his friend Andy Faulkner who is much more in touch with his feminine side. Micks’ neat new haircut has adversely affected his teams performances. ‘We used to be able to see the breeze direction and its strength by looking at Micks unkempt locks flowing in the wind – we have to just guess now.’ Reported a frustrated Richard Palmer

In todays event Heyrose’s Jim Meldrum(21) holed an eight iron on the par five 14th for an impressive birdie to help his team into 2nd place with 81 points. Josh Street (plus 3!), Chris Stretch(10) and Chris Chidley were his playing partners.

Phil Robinson’s likeable Wychwood team of Dave Goodwin, Lord Richard Williamson and Dave Snape returned to form as did Withingtons Andy Parrington and his Charismatic four ball including Andy Taylor, Andy Strickley and Ted Lacey. They all scored 81 points to narrowly miss out.

Paul Rudkin from Old Worsley Golf Club and his team of Craig Gorton(11), Mike Lomax (17)and Graham Butler(9) were delighted to win with just 83 points.

‘We love playing Maxitours, another great course and I can’t believe we won with just 83 points in perfect conditions!’ What a great tour with brilliant like minded golfers!’ Thanks Paul. Glad you had a great day.

Thanks so much for playing with such integrity and supporting the host club. We just keep getting positive comments from everywhere we play.

Yours in golf, Tim

Maxitours at Peak condition Cavendish

Room at the following great venues:

Chorley Friday 13th Sept

Vale Royal Wednesday 18th Sept

Hazel Grove Thursday 19th Sept

Maxitours at ‘Peak’ condition Cavendish.

Another incredible Maxitours event.

Cavendish was a real pleasure to play and all my players agreed that this is a very special golf course indeed.

‘Absolutely beautiful!’ Declared Nigel Ashton after his round. ‘That course was presented magnificently.’ Thanks to the Cavendish head green keeper for delivering this Derbyshire masterpiece to such a high standard.

It was a cool Autumnal start to the day but the Pennine breeze soon parted the clouds and replaced them with glorious blue skies.

The drive to Cavendish is stunning after steeply climbing the foothills of the pennines you enter the peak distict and the roads wind their way through huge valleys and moorland hilltops .

The golf course is surrounded on all sides by stunning hillsides and rocky outcrops. Tony Hereford hadn’t played here before and as he checked in he asked: ‘Is the course hilly?’ I nearly fell off my chair.

Andy Oakes was at it again. After talking to several uninterested Maxitours players about his first major win at Prestbury last week, today he was pointing out his name on the honours boards at Cavendish (where he was briefly affiliated) to anyone he could find in the clubhouse. Even a few members of the funeral party were invited to have a look.

Scoring was the worst ever in Maxitours history proving that a golf course does not have to be long to be a tough challenge. If your team scored a measly 72 points you were comfortably in the top half of the field!

Playing in the toughest conditions this morning the Bramhall ‘b’ team of Bob Eastwood, Mark Clewley, Mike Lamb and Ashley Elliott recorded a very solid 78 points which was leading for a long time. Dave Sarsfield and Geoff Bickertons teams were both surprised and delighted to be in the frame after battling 77 point hauls.

The wind dropped late in the day and the scoring took a turn for the better.

The Shrigley Hall team are used to sloping lies and tough greens and they took third place with 80 points. They finished eight better but picked up 5 shots on the 10th and 11th thanks to back to back birdies from Martin Firth (2). Ray White(17), his son Ollie(8) and Adam Brindle (15)completed the quartet.

The low handicap Hazel Grove team of Cheshire legend Andrew Hill(3), massively talented Frazer MacLoad(plus3), slightly less talented Callaway sales manager Tom Gradwell(2)and Scott Taylor(14) took second place with 81 points.

Winning today were ex Hazel Grove Captain Mike Jones(8), next years Captain Ian Martin(9), less important Steve Volp(11), and even less important Dan Moss(5). The team picked up a vital six points at the last, Moss rolled in a forty footer at the last to secure the win. Well played guys.

Maxitours at amazing Astbury

Maxitours at Amazing Astbury !!

Huge thank you to PGA TEACHING PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR 2-019 Matt Turnock for running todays event:

A very pleasant day with some outbreaks of sunshine made for superb golf at the splendid Astbury course. The ideal weather conditions with very little wind made for some good scoring.

There were lots of complimentary comments so a big thanks to the grounds staff and their efforts in presenting the course in such marvellous condition for the time of year.

The recently renovated clubhouse was looking splendid and the catering was excellent with one Maxitours player exclaiming “That’s is the best sausage bap I’ve ever had”. And he has had a few in his time.

A big thank you to my good friend Matt Turnock for running today’s event efficiently as always, Dave More O’Farrell’s wife made some amazing lemon drizzle cake and Matt was delighted to share.

Thank you all for your continued support.
