Brilliant Bramhall

Spaces at Vale royal in September – it’s a cracker!

Maxitours at brilliant Bramhall

Bramhall Golf Club keep raising the bar. The members are already blessed with a tremendous clubhouse but other improvements are taking place all the time. The paths around the course look great and new indoor range facilities look tremendous. This is a brilliant club and a real pleasure to play.

‘They are probably the best fairways in Cheshire!’ Observed Prestburys Graeme Grieve after enjoying his golf round today.

‘They must fertilize these fairways and greens- they are like carpets’ Observed Saddleworths wealthiest member, Dave Rhodes.

Martin Humphries was also full of praise. ‘I love this course! Its my favourite venue of the year.’ The well-travelled dedicated golfer declared after his round.

Pros tip of the week: Keep away from Andy Oakes.

Andy won his one and only major at Prestbury last week and will talk you through every hole if you mention it. I made the fatal mistake at check in and after five minutes the queue was backing up towards the entrance door. As the bar maid locked up tonight he bent down under the shutters and asked her if she had heard about his victory.

Nigel Ashton’s golf has been on the crest of a slump in recent weeks but today the charismatic ex headmaster enjoyed his new 7 wood. His team recorded a season best 4th place finish. Likeable Stu Rogers birdied the 1st hole to get the team moving nicely.

Bramhall Captain John Pacey is a lovely man and we were honoured to have him playing today. The two handicapper helped Simon Hemsley, Joe Kirwan and Ian King take 3rd spot.

Prestburys Chris Adams(9), Richard Johnson(13), Nick Hargreaves(90 and Andy ‘just the one major’ Oakes(5) took 2nd place. Andy continued his excellent form collecting three 2’s in a round of just 69 shots. Quality.

Winning today was Kevin Hart(9), Mark Foley(5), lower tier football manager Karl Marginson(8) and Paul Yearsley (9). Yearsley has lost three stone in recent weeks but he ate up the Bramhall course today to give the team a hard-earned victory on a breezy but beautiful golf course. Thanks to everyone for your 100% attendance today. Superb. Tim

Super Stockport results

All August events full! Thank you.

September events also filling fast! Room at Chorley Fri13th , and last two spots in the fantastic Cheshire Classic at Vale Royal Weds 18th and Hazel Grove Thurs 19th – (LET ME KNOW ASAP IF YOU HAVE ENTERED AND CAN’T PLAY BOTH DAYS PLEASE. )

Maxitours Algarvian trips in January and February nearly full – treat yourself this Winter.

Maxitours at superb Stockport

Stockport was once again in terrific condition. Greens maintenance took place here two weeks ago but you would not believe it as the greens were blemish free and rolling so true. Head green keeper Rob is well ahead of the game. Brilliant work.

The girls who served us all day in the clubhouse were exceptional and Callum in the pro shop was brilliant and put out my nearest the pins and has a bright future in the game.

Dave Cooper is an interesting bloke who keeps bees as a hobby. He told me that he had a bad year last year and lost a couple of colonies, he lost a few Pro Bee ones today as his team could only manage 72 points.

With the hot humid conditions Andy Parrington was wearing his shorts today. Andy is a super lad and a very fine category one golfer but I have seen more meat on a Lidl roast chicken. It is rumoured that he uses a chapstick for his deodorant. There was a threat of thunderstorms in the forecast last night but his team looked confident.

‘ We have our very own lightening conductor with us so we should be safe.’ Reported his streetwise team mate Andy Taylor.

We were blessed to have some high quality lady golfers playing today. Claire Witney (2) started her round with three birdies and England senior star Cath Rawthore(1) also put the blokes in her fourball to shame with some great golf.

In todays’ event scoring was the best for a few months as the blemish free greens and tremendous fairway surfaces ensured good golf was rewarded.

Martin Williams, Simon Hartland, Martin Bray and John Tomlinson took third with a superb 88 points. Hartland is a fine athlete and is starting to fulfil his massive potential on the course.

Second place went to Bramhall’s big hitting Dave Woods who smashed in five birdies, smooth swinging left hander Simon Hemsley, wise Joe Kirwan and Stockport member Nick O’Brien also contributed well as the team racked up 90 points. They loved it out there.

Wychwoods Chris Brierley(10) Ian Brooks(9), Lee Roberts(7) and Eddie Sterling(6) took the honours with 91 points- an outward 47 points set them up for a terrific win. Well played chaps.

Thanks so much for your support everyone, Tim.

Results from remarkably good Romiley

Maxitours overseas trip filling quickly – two teams sold this week! Don’t but stuck in the damp this January.

Maxitours at remarkably good Romiley.

Romiley was highly praised by so many players today who were surprised and delighted by the quality of this historic Cheshire course. Romiley has hosted all the major Cheshire championships and it is getting right back to the top of the Cheshire map where it firmly belongs.

Terrific scenery and a mixture of short strategic and long testing holes make for a superb challenge.

‘What a lovely track!’ Declared Ringways Steve Perrett.

‘I never knew what a great course this is. It was millionaires golf out there in the sunshine!’ Declared sun tanned millionaire Steve Francis.

Rachel is the Club secretary and was fantastic to deal with and is also a lovely person. She is really on top of her game. Today there were signs welcoming my players and special maxitours food menus- brilliant work Rachel.

I used to coach the Romiley pro Graham Drabble when he was a junior and its great to see him doing such a professional job and building a very healthy reputation. He was busy teaching his juniors throughout the day and his knowledge of the golf swing is now incredible. It has taken a awhile luckily he has managed to forget everything I taught him.

With the overnight rain the pro said the greens were fast and would be receptive to a well struck approach shot. Bob Sutton was a little bit concerned that he would struggle to keep his ball on the greens with the extra backspin he would generate but the skilful 28 handicapper adapted well.

We had a plus 3.6 handicapper playing today in the form of Sean Dobson who made eagle after hitting a 54 degree wedge for his 2nd shot into the par 5 tenth and in the group immediately after him there was a plus 2.4 Frazer McCload who recently shot ten under at Stockport with a double bogey ion his card. Both featured in the top ten.

The Knutsford team of Nigel Eckersley, Graham Pike, Nigel Davenport and Jeremy Lawton took a shock lead with 83 points midway through the day. This was the equivalent to the Jamaican bob sleigh team winner Gold at the Winter Olympics – in fact it was that much of a shock it was the equivalent of the Jamaican bob sleigh team winning golf in the Summer Olympics. Unfortunately, a few good scores late in the day prevented them getting a podium finish.

Stockport’s Frazer Macload, Andrew Hill, Scott Taylor and Romiley Junior Jack Walker took 3rd with 85 points

Tytheringtons Paul Calnan, Chris Jackson, Howard Kelley and Malcolm Kendrick scored 85 to take 2nd place on the card play off but it was Sale’s Neil Griffiths(11), Toby Ainsworth (5), Moby Rawthore (2) and positive Tony Stiles (10) who took the honours with 86 points. A birdie at the last from young Toby will last in his memory forever. Class.

Thanks to everyone for your support today. Romiley has been booked for next year and will fill quickly!
