Results from cracking Conwy

Spaces at Reddish on Thursday – forecast very good and the course really is excellent.

Maxitours at cracking Conwy.

Clear blue skies greeted the early maxitours competirors who travelled to Conwy this morning.

The course is improving by the year, new patches of marron grass are being planted and the gorse is slowly being cleared. Pathways are being cut through the dunes. It is wonderful here.

The freshly cut firm greens are always a pleasure to putt on and they were first class today..

The wind was blowing in completely the wrong direction for how the course was designed. All the shot holes were down breeze and the easy holes were playing into the wind. So there were more 7 pointers and also more 1 pointers than usual. John Davies always hits his ball in the wrong direction so he was at home today.

If you think you are unlucky spare a thought for sheep farmer Richard Palmer . Just as the golfing weather improves he will be helping 300 sheep give birth. Instead of reaching in and pulling a titliest pro v1 out of the hole he will be reaching in and pulling out a baby lamb. The first ones are due on Thursday.

In todays competition there were more dead badgers by the side of the A55 than points scored by Dave Bloods team as they finished in last place with 69.

The best scores were from the morning starters who enjoyed sunshine before the wind really picked up and clouds gathered late in the day.
Five of the top six scores were all in the first few groups of the day.

Talented Jon Hudson and his Bramall Park team scored an excellent 83 points to take 5th.

Nigel Ashton, Mike Lowe, John Williams and Stuart Smith had a solid 85 points and were unlucky just to finish 4th to Geoff Bickerton, Andy Russell, Steve Booth and Danny Swarbrick who played late in the day.

Two teams scored 86 points and it went to a last six hole card play off.

Gareth Winston, John Harrop, Jack Schofield and James Beswick just missed out to Lee Charnley, Jim Caldwell, John Roome an Andrew Aherne. Both teams making the most of the early benign conditions. Well played everybody.

Thanks for your support,
See you at Reddish Vale on Thursday.

Steve Booth turned up at Reddish last week instead of Vale Royal so give him a ring if you need directions.

Tim.

Shrigley

Dear Maxitours players

The forecast is better at 1pm and the course is open but the field size is small

Shrigley will charge £20 to anyone who wants to play – just turn up- but think it is best to cancel the event

Hope thats the correct decision!
Please support shrigley if you can.
Thanks for your patience
Tim

The forecast tomorrow morning looks poor and playing in snow is not ideal!

The event is now a 1pm shotgun as the afternoon is set fair.

Please let me know if you wish to play/cannot make the later time.

Please inform your team.

I will update my website at 10.30am tomorrow morning so please check this before you set off.

Results from superb Reddish Vale

*Room at Reddish Vale on Thursday- I played there on Sunday -the greens are fantastic and the course is incredibly dry! Well worth playing *
Still spots at Shrigley on Friday.

Next weeks Conwy and Reddish start times below.

Maxitours at Vale Royal

Huge thanks to Vale Royal for stepping in to host todays Maxitours event. The course was superb with wonderfully smooth greens for February. The food in the clubhouse is now first class and the chilli chicken bites are well worth ordering.

I had an enjoyable day in the historic clubhouse which is 400 years old in places.
Andy Adsheads putter is nearly as old but there is still life in it as his team finished 4th.

Three time FA cup winner Frank Stapleton was back in the prizes after helping his team score 82 points to finish in 3rd place today. Nice guy Stapleton was the first ever player to score in the cup final for two different teams but winning with his three partners Norrie Erwin, Jim Clarke and Pete Booth would have eclipsed that achievement.

They were beaten into 2nd place by Knutsford’s charismatic Eddie Ellis(8) and his team of Tom Padget(2), Joe Stanley(+1) and Ben Davies(5) who recorded their highest ever Maxitours finish by winning the card play off. First to the bar Ellis is one of the nicest guys you can meet and went home to celebrate a very happy birthday and talk his two year old daughter through his round.

I’m really enjoying watching ‘Game of Thrones’ which was highly recommended by a friend. Barnsleys marauding Rob Platt(7), Darren Wilson(7), Tim Barstow(13) and Tom Broadhead(14) came from ‘over the wall’ Yorkshire today with their Callaway weapons and took away the spoils from the land of Cheshire.

They scored two eagles on the 3rd hole to have an outward 44 points before a battling 40 point back nine earned the win.
Well played chaps- excellent.

Spring is here on Friday get your sun cream out!
