Bramhall start sheet

Dear Maxitours players,

Here is the start sheet for Bramhall this Monday.

Please check your time carefully as I have had to squeeze 4 Everton fans out a little earlier as for some reason they are desperate not to miss the start of the evening match – Seriously?

Thanks Tim

Dear Maxitours player,
There is currently drizzle at Stockport but this is due to brighten up in an hour with sunshine and showers all afternoon. So the event is very much still on for anyone wanting an update. Thanks for your support

Maxitours at red hot Romiley

Maxitours at red hot Romiley.

Romiley is becoming a very firm favourite with Maxitours players after another hugely enjoyable days golf. The course has it all, mature trees, terrific views and a great mix of several challenging long holes and a few shorter risk and reward par fours.

The course is improving each year and is now right back up there with the best in the county and is more than ready to host major Cheshire events once again.

Jim Meldrum couldn’t believe what great condition the course was in considering that his home club and many other courses in Cheshire were closed after the torrential rain all day on Saturday. This greens keeper really know his stuff.

Even Dave Thomas was smiling for a change after his round but on second thoughts his team mates thought it might have been a touch of wind.

Mike Gauden is a great guy who never goes home empty handed. He buys at least one shirt off me every time he plays. It is rumored that he tells his Mrs when he gets home that he won them but I can’t believe that’s true.

It was Mrs Maxwells birthday today and as a special birthday treat she was ‘invited’ to play in my Maxitours event with my lad James and two good friends of ours, Moby and Caroline. She played nicely on the way to 78 points to narrowly miss out on the prizes.

The scoring today was among the worst in Maxitours history. The long par 4’s and ‘Juicy’ rough together with championship pin positions meant the average score was around the 73 mark. I have never had so many players hand me their scorecard and tell me to put it on the bottom of the pile.

Third place went to the Hale team of Glynn Isaacs, Paul Gilbert , Graham Bryant and retired actor Martin Oldfield. Martin Oldfield acted like a real golfer for a change today and contributed well, the team was delighted with a season best third place.

All round nice guy Lewis Marland was a founder maxitours player the popular seventy year old was delighted to take second place with a score of just 81 points. Phil Dickens, Neil Evans and Nick Ford were his on-form team mates.

Winning today was the Hazel Grove team of ex Cheshire legend Andrew Hill, likeable Callaway sales rep Tom Gradwell , Josh Nadin and Steven Mobley. They went out in just 36 points before catching fire on the back nine and coming home in 47 points which included seven birdies. Great golf chaps .Very well played.

results from lovely Lymm

Room for 2 teams at Romiley next Tuesday.

Maxitours at lovely Lymm.

Shorter report than usual as I was away playing badly and just ran the last third of the day.

A few local courses were closed this morning but Lymm was well and truly open. The fairways were firm and fast. They are a pleasure to play off and the greens were also excellent. Karen and the bar staff are brilliant. Thank you.

The sun has had a month off but as it was the 1st August it decided to come out at long last and made for a very enjoyable day indeed.

In the tournament third place went to the on-form strange speaking Bolton quartet of John Dempsey, Gary Myerscough, Kevin Yardley and Dan Swarsbrick with 85 points.

Andy Parringtons team were hopeless for the first year they played on Maxitours but they are finding their feet now. Martin left his wallet at the check in desk before his round. I had a good root around whilst he was on the course but there was nothing interesting in it. The team cashed in to take 2nd with 86 points.

Taking first place were the Bramhall quartet of Ian Hazelwood(13), Steve Ellis(6), Paul Hunt)(12) and Richard White(13). They had a terrific 45 points on the front nine and played solid golf on the closing holes to take the tournament win by a single shot with 87 points. A great team effort with all players contributing!

Well played chaps great golf.

Thanks to Karen Gallagher for standing in this morning. You are a star.

Maxitours at brilliant Bromborough

Room has just come free for 2 teams at leafy Lymm next Tuesday 1st August
Room for 2 teams at Romiley Tuesday 8th August

Maxitours at brilliant Bromborough.

Well over 100 competitors visited this lovely Wirral course as Maxitours went to Bromborough.
The Clubhouse, staff and professional are all top notch at this friendly championship Club.

Bromborough is always a huge favourite with our players, the superb rolling championship course was loved by all. Jerry Salmon really enjoyed thinning his wedges on the excellent new short game area near the clubhouse before his round and meat pie specialist Graham Jackson made the most of the half way house fare.

Simon Poucher picked up the nickname Aquaman after his ball visited the water several times on a recent golf holiday in Turkey. Today Aquaman looked like a drowned rat as he handed his card in.
‘I don’t like wearing a waterproof top as it makes me sweat.’ He told me shivering in his wringing wet maxitours t-shirt. ‘I have two umbrellas, a hat, several towels, a rainglove and a pair of winter mitts instead.’ You might want to rethink those tactics Simon.

After also playing in the worst of the evening rain Nigel Koenan looked a bit wet. He is an incredibly likeable bloke with a great sense of humour.
‘We had the best conditions today- I didn’t get a single strand of hair wet!’ Reported bald as a coot Nigel as he handed his soggy card in.

Bromborough was a tale of two halves with the morning starters enjoying glorious conditions and the afternoon players experiencing the start of yet another summer storm.

Simon Hemsley(10), Andy Bradshaw(0), Matt Ford (10) and Brian Fisher(11) were first out. They thought 82 points may finish top half but they will be delighted to read that they clinched 3rd place. Brian is a great supporter of local professional golf and is a very popular figure in the local area.

Teeing off last the tough Northern Turton team played the front nine in an impressive 45 points but then had to hang on in the toughening conditions. I watched them make a terrific birdie and par on the tough 18th for a six point haul which dragged them into second position.
‘This is a calm day compared to what we play in each week up in’t Bolton hills’. Remarked John Dempsey(1). To be fair this was definitely the performance of the day. Steven Booth(7), Gary Myerscough(8) and Kevin Yardley(7) completed the team.

Dukinfield retired copper Neale Laurent (14) and his men posted a solid 85 in the great morning weather and despite a late challenge from the Turton lads the team of John Harrop, (7) Gary Berrisford(11) and Steve McClure (14) cruised to a Brian Harman style victory . Well played chaps. Excellent performance on a testing golf course.

Thanks again for your 100% attendance. Class.
