Algarvian Classic Final round scores

Dear Maxitours players,

What a week!!!
I really, really enjoyed running this one.

Terrific weather, stunning golf courses and sixty brilliant clients.
‘They are the best greens I have ever putted on ‘ Declared loaded Phil Vokes after his final round at Quinta do Lago North -he has played all the top courses in the world.

Massive thanks to everyone for your integrity and being such a great group. Julie at Holidays 4golfers has also been outstanding and I highly recommend her services to all my players.

Everyones’ favourite Colin Roberts, Mike Tarrant, Paul Griffiths and big hitting James Wilson won todays daily event with a stunning 78 points. Cracking.

In the main overall event incredibly close scoring saw three teams sharing second place with some phenomenal last days golf.

We saw a charge from Kevin Harts team who were -9 for their first nine holes. They briefly took the lead before the enormity of the situation hit them and they battled home in 33 points to take 2nd place.

Dean McFadden shrugged off his toothache to see his team finish in 3rd position and the lovable Peter Roche Stockport team finished in a very credible 4th place.

Taking first place was Roger Percival, Martin France, Pete Atherton (heavy Ballesteros) and Andy Wright. These lads have enjoyed four previous Algarvian Masters trips but a win has always eluded them. They were overcome with emotion after victory today. Well played chaps – very popular winners indeed. They are pictured below on the 11th hole during todays round at Quinta North.

It is the presentation dinner tonight at the terrific Bovino restaurant. See you all at 6.15pm.

Finally, thanks to my lovely wife Suzy who lets me play golf and run these events. You are the best.
Safe travels,

Tim
Ps Any Maxitours players wishing to join the trip please let me know as spaces are already filling and I have already had enquiries from 3 new teams .

Maxitours Algarvian Classic Day 2

Blue skies and beige shorts was the order of the day in the second round of the Algarvian Classic on the stunning Laranjal golf course.
Everything about this place oozes class, the best range in the Algarve, best greens in the Algarve and possibly the best course in the Algarve.

Tournament leader Martin France and Lymm team were seen returning to their rooms at 9.30pm last night and the preparation paid off as they held on to their lead. Peter Atherton even had a salad.

In second place after a super 80 points is the aging Stockport team with Peter McCulloch, Peter Roche, Chris Hammond and Moby ‘two eagle’ Rawthore.
The Kevin Hart ‘b’ team is also playing well and move into 3rd also with 80 points today.

Mick Mahons team recorded 60 points yesterday- they were 21 shots better today and had a terrific 81.
Kev Harts Davyhulme team improved by 16 shots with a best of the day 84. Brilliant.

Our Final days competition is on the fabulous Quinta do Lago North course tomorrow. Range balls are once again provided and will be available an hour prior to your tee off time.

Thanks for being such a great group your integrity and class throughout the week is always appreciated
Yours in Golf,
Tim

Maxitours Algarvian Classic

Maxitours Day 1 in the Sunny Algarve.

The sun shone down on the sixty Maxitours players at Laranjal golf course today. GLORIOUS!
A gentle sea breeze meant the course was playing tougher than usual and this was reflected in today’s scoring.

Leading the way was the Lymm team of Roger Percival, Martin France, Andy Wright and Pete Atherton. It is the 5th time these guys have played in this event and each year they have had a terrible first day. Today was different as they holed several long putts to lead by 6 shots. Pete Atherton is known as Heavy Ballesteros to his close friends as he enjoys his food and has a great short game. He holed a classy sand shot when the rest of his team were crumbling late in the round.

Knutsford’s Chris and Jim Clarke, Graham Jackson and Pete Ledger are looking dangerous in 2nd place after recording 79 -this despite dropping a shot on the birdie-able 18th hole.

The well spoken Stockport Golf Club team of Peter McCulloch, Peter Roche, Chris Hammond and Moby Rawthore are in 3rd place after a hard fought 78 – Rawthore had three 2’s on the tough par three holes.

Can the Percival team hang on to their lead???

Get to bed early guys. Moving day tomorrow.

Tim

The Maxitours Algarvian Classic

Dear Maxitours players,

Just five days until the sixty lucky players tee off in the 7th Maxitours Algarvian Classic!

We have a really lovely group of golfers and the event is always played in a terrific spirit- I can’t wait.

My weather app is always a little on the optimistic side but the wall -to-wall sunshine looks set to continue for the next ten days-it is like a different world out here -brilliant!!

The golf courses are in superb condition so the three-day team event should be a cracker!

Can you please email team handicaps through ASAP as I am preparing the cards before your arrival.

There are some lovely restaurants for you to visit in the evening– I prefer traditional Portuguese ‘value for money’ establishments and enjoy eating in Almancil which is a 10 minute (7 euro) Uber taxi ride away -Butchers steak restaurant (set menu 35 euro is a cracker), O’Ribiero, Gamboa, Senor Frango are all excellent. Wealthier teams (ie Jim Clarke, Roger Percival and anyone who lives in Bramhall) will enjoy Parrilla Natural, Julias, Sandbanks or restaurants in trendy Vilamoura, fifteen minutes away by Uber (9 euro).

It feels really safe over here and the Portuguese are strict with mask wearing, restaurants all require seeing proof of vaccination on your phone.

I hope you have a safe journey.

Yours in Golf and Friendship,
Tim

Last days tee times will have teams going out in score order- leaders out last.
