Maxitours at delightful Didsbury

The sunshine was out at Didsbury for the latest Maxitours event. What a Club this is!
Highly rated green keeper Rob Davies kindly mowed a huge ‘Maxi’ into the bank on Didsbury’s third hole! – Brilliant. It is great to be recognised at last- I will try not to change too much. Everyone was delighted with the superb course presentation despite a very wet summer. Well done Rob.

It was also great to see the Club Captain Alan Collins meeting my players and wishing us well this morning. Thank you. Club manager Caroline and stewardess Caroline were also incredibly friendly – perhaps this is why the club has increased it membership so much this year – keep up the great work Didsbury.

Thanks also to Golf manager trainee Joe Stanley who proudly invited Maxitours to play at Didsbury last year. Top man.

The report is shorter than usual as I played my usual below average golf in a competition this morning and was playing catch up all day. Thanks to Karen Gallagher for handing the cards out this morning.

Every golfer knows what a huge advantage local knowledge is. Intelligent strategy can save a player numerous shots. Today we were joined by lovely Didsbury member Chih Hu. He played as if he had never seen the course before and his team finished in last place.

Paul Robinson picked up his new Callaway clubs this week and struck his opening tee shot to 18 inches to win nearest the pin on the par three first. He soon got used to them and played his usual rubbish for the next 17 holes.

Denton’s Garry Owen(10) Mark Bone (11) Alistair Holloway(14) and John Forster(9) took third place. They had the best back nine of the day 44 points to add to their average front nine.

Mottram Halls Richard Blackwell and his team are still without a win this year but another solid performance sees them finish in 2nd place with 83 points. They had a costly dropped shot on the tricky final hole.

Hale’s Brian Greenbank (7) Dave ‘Ive got to get home for the baby’ Wainwright(11) Greg Davison (18) and Angus Mully- Brown(16) enjoyed their first win for a couple of years. They also dropped a shot on the closing hole but the rest of their back nine was superb. Well played chaps, very popular winners.

Thanks for your attendance everyone. Superb.

Excellent food available 9am -5pm
Masks are required in all areas of the clubhouse. They can be removed whilst seated. Also I am sure that all the players will be aware but anyone who lives in the greater Manchester area which are still subject to restrictions cannot socialise with others inside the Golf Club. Lymm are operating a strict two households per table inside but looking at the weather forecast for next week I suspect most people will be sat outside.

Maxitours at Classy Clitheroe

A one -in -a -million day greeted Maxitours competitors at Clitheroe golf club today.

Glorious blue skies, a gentle breeze and eighteen phenomenal golf holes were enjoyed by everyone.

‘I played terribly. the team were even worse, the company was appalling but I had a great day. The course was brilliant’ Reported Brian Ankers.

‘Our fourball would all like to say what a fantastic course that is, we will be coming back very soon.’ Praised Norman Lees who was a guest in Colin Roberts team.

Clitheroe held the Lancashire county championship this weekend and despite the course measuring just less than 6500 yards and with perfect playing conditions the standard scratch was set at four over par 75. One player teed off at the first and hit two out of bounds before picking up his clubs and walking back to his car to spend the rest of the day shopping with his wife.

The scores today reflected how tricky the course plays

Despite children returning to school the roads were also exceptionally quiet and the journey from Knutsford took me just over an hour. A few players thought there was a school child playing today but on closer inspection it turned out to be sixty year old John Harker wearing his M &S golf shorts

.

.Adrian Browns team finished in 3rd place with 81 points. Adrian had to get up and down out of the sand at the last to move into second. He got over excited and thinned his shot across the green just as John Kelly was taking his first well-earned sip of beer. Luckily Johns elbow stopped the ball from going out of bounds.
After a little medical attention normal service was resumed although John had to drink the rest of his pint with his left hand.

John Hilditch(12) and the wealthy estate agents team are making more money than they know what to do with at the moment and their confident swagger transferred to the golf course with an exceptional 46 points on the front nine. Thing crashed on the back nine a little but Simon Walton(10) Paul Smith(12) and Don Campbell(2) were happy with 2nd place.

Sandways Gary Neiles(6), Jimmy Ainscough,(22) John Morton(13) and Lymms John Longworth(14) took first place today. The 120 yard 17th hole is possibly the best hole on the Maxitours circuit. As his three partners all failed to score Neiles coolly rolled in his birdie to keep the team spirits high. Well played chaps great golf. Thanks for your terrific support today, Tim

Maxitours at brilliant Ringway

Maxitours at brilliant Ringway

Ringway proved to be yet another fantastic venue for my Maxitours players today.
The course is always in terrific condition and head green keeper Richie Stevens did me proud once again. It was great that he introduced himself and wished us a good day- Top green keeping!

The first half of the field enjoyed perfect conditions but late in the day the weather gradually deteriorated
‘Zat is a vunderful course!’ Announced Dutchman Koos Alders. ‘ I would love to play it in ze zummer’.

‘I could be a member here!’ Reported Martin Humphries ‘That is a top, top course!’

Thanks also to Tracy who is one of the most forward thinking General managers in the business. She was superb today.

Chris Bracchi is easily persuaded. ‘Whats for lunch?’ He asked the waiter.
‘We have only got freshly cooked pulled pork with apple sauce on delicious baps with chips.’
‘That is too much for me. ‘I’ll do without.’
‘We’ve also got freshly cooked pulled pork with apple sauce on delicious baps without chips?’
‘That sounds nice -I’ll have one.’

In todays event popular Colin Roberts led his Alsager team into 6th place with 81 points . They had a best of the day 45 points on the front nine before the tough back nine took its toll.
Maxitours legend Lewis Marland had his best performance of the season playing alongside Phil Dickens (13) Dave Greenwood (11) and one of six attractive ladies playing today- Sarah Ormrod (14)
They were delighted to finish in 5th place.

New Mills mechanical engineer Tony Jennison (5) took 4th place playing with Nick Moores (12) Andy Hamlett(8) and Richard Blackwell (13)

Sandiways Gary Neiles(6) took 3rd on the card play off teaming up with John Longworth(14) John Morton(12) and Jimmy Ainscough(22)

Narrowly missing out today was Retired headmaster Nigel Ashtons team (13). Ashton is more famous for turning up 2 hours before his Maxitours start time so he can park his beloved BMW somewhere safe rather than his golf game. He was excellent today though and made a vital par on the 17th when his team were wobbling. Colin Bryan (9) Paul Fell (5) and Wigan’s Martin Humphries (12) completed the team.

Winning today despite playing in the worst of the conditions was the Ashton on Mersey team of accountants. Adam Robinson(7),his retired Dad Paul(10) Haydn Parry(4) and Gabriel Bagshaw (2) took first place with 85 points. ‘Have you got any interests or funny stories for my report?’ I asked the pen pushing quartet.
‘No’.

Great golf lads

Well played.

Thanks to everyone for your 100% attendance.
