Maxitours at classy Stockport

Despite the ‘cool’ temperature and refreshing drizzle, nearly 90 competitors teed off in todays event at Stockport Golf Club and everyone was glad to play. Considering the recent weather conditions the course was really well presented. The dazzling Jayne Scowen and her Stockport staff were very friendly and terrific to deal with.
It takes more than freezing rain, snow and temporary greens to stop Maxitours players enjoying an away day on the links.
‘I’ve spent the last week stuck at home doing jobs for the missus’ grunted Neville Dennis ‘another day with the wife looking round B&Q could have sent me over the edge’ he added.
Stockport is high quality Open Championship Qualifying course and that event was last played here in 2002. A ‘very talented’ future Masters winner by the name of Charl Schwartzel won the event in 64 classy strokes, he was delighted to narrowly beat the slim, thick haired, Tim Maxwell by 9 shots.
Mike Spencer returned to Maxitours golf after a recent expensive family holiday, with his nice tan and relaxed aura it was commented that he looked healthier than Harry Redknapps Swiss bank account.
Seamus Keegan and John Dolan were delighted to record their highest ever Maxitours finish with a 44 point haul. This was matched by Sale Golf Clubs Chris Leonard and Jeff Sherburn. Another senior Sale Golf Club player, John Stubbs, teamed up with Harrison Ford lookalike David Smith from Ringway and their better back nine gave them second place.
Taking the honours was Kevin Barker and Dave McCallum from Mottram Hall, these are two great guys who have had numerous lessons from me over the past twenty years without much success. Barker practises his flat swing under a coffee table in his front room, McCallum has worked hard to lengthen his backswing and is now delighted to regularly get the club past his right knee. Today the two pals teamed up to record the biggest wins of their golf careers with a great 44 points. Well played chaps!

Many thanks to all players for supporting todays event, I can assure you it will soon be Spring and I believe temperatures are soaring upwards next week. Thanks again for your support of today’s event in the inclement conditions, it is really appreciated.
