Tremendous Tytherington

The last of the Summer rain (before the predicted heat wave) greeted the early competitors at the Tytherington Golf and Country Club today.
The course has perhaps the best layout in Cheshire , the greens were superb and the venue also has a very nice relaxed and friendly feel about it.
On arrival in the clubhouse nearly all the players enjoyed sitting down in front of the big screen to watch the golf. Eddie Ellis and Colin Byrne were trying desperately to pick up a few last minute tips before their round. Mick Mahon and Frank Hindle must have complete confidence in their golf swings as they took very little interest in the Open. They seemed content to sit away from the TV in the quiet conservatory area, which coincidentally had a great view of the ladies aerobics class taking place next door.
Paul Taylor has lost the occasional head cover in his golf career, he has also lost plenty of golf balls in recent weeks. Today was a first for the likeable Lancastrian when he lost his playing partner Paul Baxter. On the seventh hole Baxter playing the course for the first time quietly departed the green to the right in search of the next tee, his partners went left down the woodland path. It took him twenty minutes to locate them.
The wet ground conditions led to some average scoring and some amazing golf shots. Charles Herbert made a great 4 on the seventeenth hole. He hit his drive 285 yards down the middle, leaving himself a simple 128 yard wedge. He stone cold topped the ball deep in the soft ground and it popped out backwards leaving him 129 yards to the flag, this next shot he hit to within a foot of the hole for a simple tap in par.
‘Old but on form’ Neville Dennis parred the 6th 7th and 8th holes as his team took the early lead with 82 points. As the scores started to come into the clubhouse it was clear that this total would take some beating.
Martin Firth and his strong team scored 80 points after dropping shots on three of the last four holes. Ray Ward made a terrific par at the last to earn his team 81 points.
However this was as close as any team came and tour ever present Neville ‘legend’ Dennis recorded his first win since early 2011. Very well played chaps.

An unnamed Maxitours player today asked about taking his loved one to the Carden Park trip in August ‘my wife might get bored if I’m playing all day, I was thinking of sending her in for a facial, she’s not the best looking but five hours of treatment might be too much even for her.’

Thanks for your support of todays event.
