Maxitours at Wonderful Worsley
Worsley is one of Manchesters most historic and beautiful golf courses. Today despite recent heavy downpours the weather was fine and the course was presented in excellent condition for the latest Maxitours event.
Scruffy maxitours regular Geoff Cogswell today looked as smart as I have ever seen him. Normally Geoff has the look of a rat peeping out of a hay stack. Today he turned up like a new man after his barber took three inches of hair off his head, two inches off his eyebrows and an inch off his nose and ears.
Full figured Simon Helmsley continues to closely monitor his diet and he was extremely careful not to put too much sugary tomato sauce on his 3rd sausage sandwich.
Dave Henshall has had more last place finishes than any other Maxitours player in history. Today he was delighted to finish second from bottom ‘that was a good performance from me today’ beamed Dave. ‘Especially considering I have got a bad foot, a bad back and I am mentally deranged.’
Al Noden enters the 2’s sweep each week and today he was overjoyed when he recorded the first two of his undistinguished Maxitours career. He is going to be very careful not to lose his pro V1s next week as they cost him £172.50 each.
Todays ‘trunk slammers’ were Mark Richardson and Charles Herbert, 1 handicapper Richardson played the front nine in an incredible SIX under par gross, however an average back nine saw them finish 6th on a card play off with 43 points.
Enigmatic Dave Parsons and charismatic John Stubbs are great friends and the two likeable characters rarely feature in the top ten. It has been suggested that they peak for just 1 week each year (and that’s the week they go on a fishing holiday.) Today they played terrific golf and were delighted to finish 5th on 43 points.
Also on 43 points was the feared pairing of Darren Whittaker and Ian King who are just finding some form before the winter series. Gary Conroy and Billy Ratcliffe were 3rd also on 43 points and Alan Jacobs and Darren Wood were 2nd after a terrific back nine.
Todays winners were John Beech and Jeff Barratt who travel regularly from Leek to play in my events. Despite their strange accents both these young looking seniors played some terrific golf scoring 45 points to record their first wins. You could tell they were both delighted with their performance because in the bar after play these Midlanders kept saying to each other ‘well played me duck’.
Many thanks to all players for your support today.
