Maxitours at Delamere Forest .

Glorious Delamere Forest was bathed in sunshine as the full field of players teed off in todays Maxitours event. Everyone enjoyed the dry fast running fairways and excellent Delamere greens. The brisk Easterly wind prevented anyone from overheating in the intense sun!

It was good to see Barry Horrox squeeze into the Clubhouse today after a recent golfing trip to America. When asked if the golf trip was successful he replied:
‘I enjoyed the deep fried cheesecake best’

Neil Todd knows how to boost his partner’s confidence before play. ‘There’s absolutely no point in you entering the ball sweep, you’ve got no chance of making a two’ he advised his 23 handicap partner Alistair Culpin at registration.

It was great to see what high quality clientele Maxitours events have started to attract. Today two retired, respected and wealthy Cheshire doctors actually played in the same fourball. Dr Dave Arthur claims to be the cleverer of the two but Dr Martin Beresford doesn’t care because he has a lower handicap.

Before todays event John Hilditch(14) from Portal was pining for regular partner Ian Bartholomew who had a knee operation last week. ‘Is this new chap R. Humphries you’ve put me with any good?’ he quizzed before play.
The two hit it off beautifully to record 44 points and take 5th place. ‘Thanks for introducing me to tall dark Russell(18) I really like him. Whats his phone number?’ he whispered as he handed in his card.

Ian Gauden(17) and Bill Gillings(13), two lovely seniors from Davyhulme, teed off on the tenth and had the best nine holes of their long golfing lives as they went out in 26 points. The tougher front nine saw them back to playing their usual rubbish, but they just managed to hang on and scrape 44 points and were delighted to take 3rd spot.

John Bent(3) and Ian Self(4) from Didsbury played some really stunning golf today. Benty was solid on the front nine picking up a couple of birdies but Ian played the back nine in four under par gross! He birdied the last three holes to finish in some style.

Taking todays honours were Maxitour regulars Wilmslows Alex Jerman(6) and Richard Blackwell(14). It is well known to Maxitours players that the main reason chunky Jerman loves Delamere is the huge sausage rolls sold behind the bar. Very likeable Jerman teamed up with even more likeable wine merchant Richard Blackwell and they both recorded their first ever win with 46 points. Fearing another public humiliation in the post match report hungry Jerman celebrated his win with a small bowl of soup.

Many thanks to all who played today.
Yours in golf,
Tim.
