Maxitours at Ringway
Once again todays players were treated to clear blue Autumn skies. The brisk wind prevented anyone from overheating under the warm November sun.
Ringway is famous for its attractive blonde Secretary and brunette barmaids. Even respected Head-Pro Nick Ryan had a haircut recently in order to not let the side down. All the catering staff were also superb. The golf course was magnificently presented. Many thanks for you hospitality Ringway!
Colin Baxendale has had plenty of bad luck recently and he has also struggled for form in recent weeks. Things reached an all time low today for Colin. The balls were thrown in the air on the 1st tee to decide who would play with whom in a friendly match within his team. His ball took a bad bounce and trickled into an unplayable lie in a nearby bunker.
Maxitours events reached new heights when Phil Vokes(2) turned down meeting the Queen in order to play at Ringway. His Charity working wife was invited by Royal Appointment to lunch this afternoon as they were visiting Manchester . She was delighted to be seated next to the Duke of Edinburgh whilst her husband opted for the links. Phil was honoured to present his wife with some Cleveland winter mitts as his Didsbury team of Paul Dalby(4), Paul Sherlock(5) and Barney Ross(4) finished fourth.
On form Tony Cooper(11) and Liam Harrison(8) teamed up with Phil Davies(10) and undertaker Phil Williams(16). Before play most of his team asked for the bacon to be well done on their pre round baps. Williams asked for his to be cremated. They finished third despite Phil’s ball finding several watery graves.
Second place went to nice guys and ever present Maxitour players from Bramall, Ian King(9), Joe Kirwan(5), Darren Whittaker(14) and Alex Elliott(1). Kirwan regularly plays poorly with me in various local pro ams however today he was inspired and all the team contributed well for an excellent 83 points.
Brian Hopkins(7) has played in most events this summer with average success. He usually partners steady Alan Pengelly(14) and they both hit lovely controlled draws. Before teaming up with Charles Herbert(16) and Ross Birch(8) today they both thought that a ‘wild slice’ was a vegetarian pasty you could buy in Greggs bakery. Today they saw plenty of wild slices as Herbert regularly found adjoining fairways however some terrific recovery play saw them take the honours with 84 points, very well played chaps.
Thanks to all players for your terrific attendance once again today.
