Maxitours at Sandiway

Spring definitely felt just around the corner as very pleasant golfing conditions were enjoyed by today’s full field at Sandiway Golf Club. The players experienced barely a breath of wind and they all enjoyed the firm fairways and lovely putting surfaces .

‘The greens were great and the tees were superb. The bunkers were so good even I could get out of them!’ reported Geoff Andrews.

Top agent Alan Frazer manages several superb singers and other performing artists. Today he showed us that he can also do a turn and he provided the entertainment when he coolly rolled in a forty foot putt across the 18th green and did a little jig of delight in front of the clubhouse.

Steve Johnson made his partners smile when he found yet another unplayable lie, this time behind a well placed bush. ‘ If I played golf in the Goby desert my ball would end up behind a bloody tree’ said the exasperated Crewe man.

In today’s event many players felt that the ideal golfing conditions would lead to some great scoring but superbly designed Sandiway is one of the tougher layouts on the Maxitours circuit and once again nobody made a fool of this brilliant course.

The Silver haired duo of John Rigby and Geoff Andrews both hit the ball left to right. Their favourite book is ‘Fifty fades of Grey’. Today they controlled their ball flight really well and were both surprised and delighted to finish in 5th position with 41 points.

Tytherington nice guys Martin Firth and Andy Taylor have both played well this Summer to reduce their handicaps and they played well once again today to score 41 points and take 4th place.

Highly rated Peter Atherton and Martin France started their round in a sluggish manner however they were luckier than Louis Van Gaal and a strong finish from the duo saw them get more than they deserved as they moved into 3rd place.

Paul Crisp is currently living on a lovely canal barge in Worsley. He has struggled for form over the past few months but has just started to play some superb golf. His return to form coincided with the cold spell. The canal has frozen so I’m not feeling seasick anymore’ said the likeable Mancunian. Today he teamed up with Steve McDermott and they both played well to score 42 points and win the back nine card play off.

First place went to the ever present Richard Blackwell and Andy Hamlett. Well spoken Blackwell plays plenty of golf and he played solid golf all day. Two excellent late birdies from Hamlett saw them seal their first wins on the Winter Tour. Well played chaps!
