Maxitours at rather warm Ringway
The warmest day of the year so far in Manchester ensured a great days golf was enjoyed by all players. Many thanks to all at Ringway Golf Club for their superb hospitality this season.
There was a huge traffic jam outside the Golf Course which caused some players to be delayed a little. I had several highly strung golfers ring my mobile before play to let me know they may be late for today’s shotgun start.
‘I don’t care about missing my tee time’ said a distraught Jim Hodges ‘I just want to know what time the chef stops serving his bacon baps?’
In today’s event Ex Manchester United footballers Frank Stapleton and Stuart Pearson look like they could go another season without any silverware as they finished in a lowly 13th place. Highly paid Team manager Dave ‘Van’ Wilson is refusing to take the blame for some very poor tactical decisions.
Top American golfer Dustin Johnson has returned to form with a great win this week after a six month enforced absence from golf due to his wild lifestyle. It is rumoured that Ferrari driving nice guy Colin Lynch also has a rock and roll lifestyle but he claims his 6 month absence from the game was due purely to the cold weather in his native Bolton. Unlike the big hitting American the break did not help Colin’s game and his team ‘rolled’ over and finished ‘rock’ bottom with 65 points.
Despite the traffic jams Davyhulme accountant Chris Wrighton(17) and his highly intelligent team were ‘queuing’ up to make birdies on the golf course and they were delighted to finish in 5th place with 80 points.
It was great to see a couple of ladies enjoying Maxitours events. Attractive Christine Kelsall(21) from Pleasington played in her husband’s team today. It is very obvious that John(11) is used to punching well above his weight both on and off the course and his excellent performance guided his team to a fourth place finish with 81 points.
Popular Maxitours character Roy Ainsworth(25) and his veteran team of Mike Verdon(15), Brian Ankers(15) and nine handicapper Peter Heald (the oldest single figure player at Lymm GC) enjoyed the firm Ringway fairways and a strong back nine meant that they were delighted to finish in third place also with 81 points.
Second place went to stunning Annie White(15) and her less attractive teammates Paul Dalby(3), Phil Vokes(3) and Barney Ross(4) who scored a solid 82 points. Barney’s eagle on the long 10th hole collected four points for the Didsbury quartet to give them a timely mid round boost.
Winning today for the second time this Winter season was 78 year old legend Neville Dennis(17). After overcoming a very serious illness last year Neville is now back to his best and he led his senior team of Frank Massey(12), Jimmy O’Reilly(9) and Alan Leigh(15) to an emotional victory. Hollywood movie stars are rumoured to be closely monitoring Neville’s epic fightback.
Well played chaps!
Many thanks to all players for your support today, once again EVERY player on last night’s start sheet played in today’s event, brilliant. Yours in golf, Tim.
