Maxitours Spring Classic at Vale Royal
The second day of the Spring Classic saw beautiful Vale Royal hosting our event. This is the most historic and also one of the best draining course in Cheshire and despite recent heavy rainfall this superb links was extremely dry and playing really well. Thanks to Ian Embury and his excellent staff for their superb work today.
Many thanks to my good friend PGA Pro Matt Turnock for running the second half of today’s event as I had family commitments to attend to. The report is slightly shorter than usual but Matt tells me he was amazed by the amount of praise the players were heaping on the green keeper after their round.
In the two day event Roy Ainsworths team had a six shot lead over the Wigan Golf Club team Captained by friendly copper Danny Ritchie. After England followed a stunning performance against Germany with a poor defeat against Holland last night many people were predicting that Roy Ainsworth’s team would follow suit. The Lymm veterans thought otherwise and they drew on all their experience and were thrilled to hold on to top spot after a solid 79 points. Congratulations chaps I am truly delighted for you all!
Today’s event was won by Neale Laurent, Gareth Winstone, Darren Burgess and Gareth Kershaw with just 84 points. This is the first ever Maxitours success for all these likeable lads and regular players Laurent and Burgess were overcome with emotion after nine years of dismal golfing failure. Brilliant.
Thanks to everyone for your terrific support of the Spring Classic which continues to grow in stature on the Maxitours rota.(there are still spaces for the two day Summer Classic in August!).
Yours in Golf, Tim
