Maxitours at delightful Dunham
Dunham Forest was in remarkably good condition for today’s latest Maxitours event.
The green keeper is a top man and he did a great job opening the course for us after recent heavy frost. His hard work this Winter looks set to reap rewards as Dunham promises to be in its usual immaculate condition come the Spring. Thanks also to PGA Pro Paul Dennis- one of the best in the business.
The Winter Olympics is set to start on Saturday in minus 25 degree temperatures. A few guys who came down from snowy Lancashire looked like they were expecting similar weather at Dunham Forest but for nine holes there was lovely Cheshire spring sunshine to enjoy. A little drizzle late in the day didn’t dampen the spirits and a hugely enjoyable day was had by all players.
Brian Hopkins won nearest the pin today on the 8th after a terrific shot left him with a tap in birdie. He made a three. He then rolled in a thirty footer for a two on the 13th. To collect some balls ‘It’s a crazy game!’
Scoring was easier than normal on the shortened course and three teams tied for 3rd place with 88 points. Accringtons Trevor Foster(+1), Adam Thompson(11), Phil Mayors(11) and Pete Ledger(17) had a great back nine to take the bronze.
Before play Scratch golfer Gareth Bradley and team mate Ian King were grumbling about starting their round on the 4th hole in today’s shotgun – ‘Why have you put us there – it’s the hardest hole!’
I actually watched them play their approach shots through the clubhouse window and three of the Bramall team made birdies as they picked up 8 points. Ian King ran out of people to high five he was so delighted – this set them on their way to an impressive 90 point tally and 2nd place. Newly crowned Bramall Captain Mike Spencer was delighted to get his year off to a winning start. King did the damage with a career best six birdies! Quality.
Leigh golf clubs’ likeable John Wallis(19), Mark Pasquall(11), Dave Tongue(10) and Tony Green(15) took first place. Mark has his own teacher recruiting company but his golf recruitment was working well today as they scored an impressive 91 points to win in style . Well played chaps.
Thanks to all who played
Yours in Golf, Tim
