Maxitours at Dunham Forest

Dunham Forest is one of only a handful of golf courses that could cope with the hurricane passing through Cheshire today.

And cope it did. Magnificently.

The greens were terrific and all the players I spoke to enjoyed their day despite rain falling all morning. The late starters enjoyed a mostly dry round which was wonderful for my stress levels.

I am really, really, grateful for everyone’s amazing support, I have a responsibility to Dunham Forest and also to my players and it gives me a sleepless night when I think the rain may affect everyone’s enjoyment but a full turn out was terrific. After travelling only one older team decided not to play and kindly offered their apologies.

Thanks everyone for your class.

I was talking to Tom Howson about Dunham Forests attractive reservoir hole. A good tee shot will carry the underground reservoir and catch the down slope.
‘I went inside their about ten years ago. There is a huge lake under there. It is unbelievable.’ He told me.
I’m not sure what Tom was expecting to find in the underground reservoir but I don’t think finding a lake is too surprising.

More surprising was Graham Jacksons order for a medium set of snazzy Footjoy waterproofs. He has got a tough few weeks ahead in the gym. I think they must be for a friend. As he was leaving he looked a little bit worried.
‘Do they have an elasticated waist?’ He enquired.

In today’s event ex Copper Neale Laurent and his Dukinfield team felt at home in the Dukinfield-like weather and finished 3rd with 85 points. They had a superb best of the day 46 points on the front nine.

It was great to see Maxitours regulars Lee Tilley(9) Dave Rhodes(18) Dave Sarsfield(18) and Gentle giant Pete Norbury(19) back on the podium. They have had a quiet couple of years but were back on top form today.

Winning today with a great score was the Denton team of Garry Owen(9), Alistair Holloway(14) Mark Bone(12) and Alan Gayle(22). The big hitting quartet made the most of the forward tees with their only dropped shot on the tricky final hole. Well played chaps.

Thanks to all my guys for looking after the course so well. A member went out after us and congratulated us for leaving the greens pitch mark free ’You wouldn’t have known anyone had played out there today- pass on my thanks- terrific.’
Congratulations to Rob Weston, Trevor Webb, Steve Foxcroft and Tony Andrews. The team normally finish last but were in the 40’s on the front nine. Rob and under-rated Tony were on fire and they only narrowly missed out on the best front nine score.

Thanks for all your support today, Tim.

  1. Hi Tim

I was in the waiting list for Fairhaven. Just to let you know that we are not interested in Wychwood Park, but thanks all the same. How are things looking for Warrington on the 25th of November? I am on the reserves list for that one too and am still keen to play. Koos
