Room for teams at Hazel Grove next Thursday 17th – the greens are superb!
Maxitours at brilliant Bolton Old Links
Bolton Old links was the terrific venue for todays’ event and the reports from my players suggested that everyone was very impressed indeed.
‘That is the best course I have played this year!’ Declared Paul Gilbert.
‘What a fantastic layout!’ Announced well-travelled John Webb.
‘Those greens are quality. I love it here.’ reported Dave Fleming.
The Old Links greenkeeper is excellent. He knows the importance of fast surfaces for the modern golfer and he keeps the greens ironed and hand cut for his members throughout the year. They were rolling at 11 on the stimp-meter this morning. Great work – many thanks. Professional Sean Owen is a smart lad and his shop
Sheep farmer Richard Palmer is an optimist. He played unusually well today and even came in a few times on the scorecard for a change.
‘Apart from Monday and Tuesday I have played well this week.’
We are only at Friday and I know he didn’t play on Thursday.
Dave Buckley and his team were impressive this morning. They had their first pint of san Miguel at 9.15am which is a new Maxitours record. This set them up for a solid 80 points and a top ten finish.
Sam Leach and his team are great guys. I told them that the half-way house was superb and if they were playing badly they could always cheer themselves up with a sausage roll half way around.
‘I think I’ll put the order in now!’ Replied team mate Jonny Barton ‘Where’s the menu?’
Leading the way for most of the day was the Simon Hemsley(12) Bramhall team with 84 points. Joe Kirwan(8) and Greg Hamilton(14) and Al Demmy all played superbly.
Ex Lancashire cricketer Warren Hegg(4) is always a handy man to have on your team and he dragged Gordon Warke (8) Wayne Harper(11) and Nigel Hallows(7)around also in 84 points. They narrowly lost out on a slightly worse back nine.
Late in the day the wind dropped a little.
Royal Birkdale plus 2 handicapper Shaun Dobson returning from college in the States teamed up with his less talented Dad(10), even less talented Michael Holmes (15)and bottom of the barrel Paul Swanick(18). Shaun had an impressive six birdies in the tough conditions to secure 2nd place.
Last match in was Vale Royals’ Andy Buckley(8) Don Phillips(14) Stuart Park(13) and John McCabe(22). After 38 points on the front nine they all chipped in with some terrific golf on the back nine to be home in 47 points to take the win on a card play-off. Buckley holed a full wedge as the popular team went crazy.
Great golf guys, well played.
