Maxitours at Fabulous Fairhaven
Perfect links conditions greeted Maxitours players at Fairhaven today. A warm but testing sea breeze and a wonderfully presented golf course ensured a fantastic day was had by all.
The sun shone all afternoon apart from a refreshing twenty-minute shower as people were playing their closing holes late in the day.
The greens were magnificent. Fairhaven is now recognized as one of the finest Championship courses in the North of England and everyone agreed that it was well worth the journey up the M6 this morning.
The clubhouse has also been refurbished and the staff were all brilliant.
The clubhouse also has tremendous view over the course and a few members always spend the afternoon watching the golfers. I loved listening to the comments:
‘He’s got a funny swing.’
‘He’ll be lucky to find it in that bush.’
‘He must practice under a coffee table.’
Ian Appleton was a Maxitours regular but now lives in the Spanish sunshine. Whenever I see him he has a big smile on his face and tells me how good the weather is in Spain. Try and avoid him.
He comes back every Christmas as he claims to play the trombone to a very high standard and plays in orchestras at various festive shows throughout the North West. I’m not too sure. There was an advert for a local pantomime in Knutsford and the ugly sister definitely reminded me of someone.
You might have wall to wall sunshine but they don’t have traditional links courses like this in Spain Ian.
In today’s event scoring was excellent due to the forward tees, pure putting surfaces and lots of talented players.
Hazel Grove solicitor Simon Ashton, Adrian Waring, Dan Moss and Phil Raines took 3rd with 85 points.
Carden Park’s Paul Fell, retired head master Nigel Ashton, Colin Bryan and Mike Lowe took 2nd place after an excellent 87 points.
Winning today was Tony Jennison(3), Richard Blackwell(12), John Hilton(15) and Gary Smith(10). John Hilton has struggled with his game recently and his handicap is about the only thing keeping up with inflation but he was back to his best today. They scored an excellent 89 points after scoring heavily on the tricky par three holes. Well played chaps.
Thanks to everyone for your support, superb.
