Maxitours at superb Stockport

Another wonderful Summers day greeted Maxitours competitors at Stockport Golf Club.

The course was exceptional especially considering that greens maintenance had taken place just two weeks ago. Congratulations to the greenkeepers – outstanding work and there was nothing but praise for this wonderful course throughout the day.

Head pro Jamie Storey is one of the bset young pro’s in the area and he was incredibly helpful today.

Scoring was always going to be excellent with a fast golf course and pure, receptive greens

Even Geoff Bickerton reached two of the par 5’s – it must have been like a runway out there.

Geoffs team scored 88 points to take 5th place but the winning scores were always going to be in the 90’s.

In 4th place was Richard Blackwell, a fully fit Don Campbell, Steve Austin and Andy Hamlett with 90 points.

Taking third with 91 points was Pete Norbury, Dave Sarsfield, Dave Rhodes and on form Lee Tilley who won a major at Saddleworth this weekend.

It was the big hitting single figure players who were on top of the leaderboard however.

Callaway rep Tom Gradwell is a member at Stockport he had a career best 7 birdies and an eagle to help his team gather 92 points. Even ex Cheshire legend Andrew Hill rolled back the years with three birdies of his own. They were out in a brilliant 49 points. Josh Nadin and Steve Mobley also played well.

Winning today was the Bramall low handicap team of Ian King, Andy Deme, Neil Ashton and Warren Ashton matching Gradwells superb 92 points but with a slightly better back nine. King buys and sells oil for a living and not only has he made a fortune this summer he is also playing some slick golf. Andy Deme , Neil Ashton and mortgage man Warren Newton all contributed nicely.
