Results from Reddish Vale

Many thanks to England Coach of the Year 2018 Matt Turnock for running my event today:
The challenging venue of Reddish Vale played host to the rearranged Didsbury fixture at short notice and considering the recent weather the course played absolutely brilliantly with lots of positive comments about the greens and general condition.

Ever friendly and welcoming Pro Andrew Myers was extremely helpful and accommodating along with the catering and bar staff who were very appreciative of the Maxitours event.

Hero Hale member Martin Bramwell certainly didn’t leave his team up the creek without a paddle with a splendid individual effort helping his team to a respectable 80 points. He was recently involved in river rescue after some canoeists had lost their paddle in the fast flowing river waters that run by one of the holes at Hale Golf Club. They had to abandon the rest of their adventure and walk back across the course with their canoe after Martin and others assisted them.

The last hole (heart attack hill as it’s fondly known to the locals) certainly took its toll with quite a few teams coming a cropper on this “face of the Eiger” finishing hole. Grappling hooks and crampons are not uncommon.

Scoring was very tight at the top with 88 point winners Bob Pickthall, Rob Roden, Bob Day and Dave Thomas just pipping the next teams down by a single point.

Results from Dunham and Didsbury changed to Reddish next week!!

****Next weeks DIDSBURY EVENT NOW MOVED TO REDDISH VALE GOLF CLUB**** Due to a flooded course I have had to change the venue to Alister Mackenzie designed Reddish Vale which is in great condition according to their pro*****

Maxitours at delightfully dry Dunham

Dunham Forest Golf and Country Club must have been the most playable golf course in Cheshire today. Whilst other local courses were closed this terrific venue was well and truly open and playing superbly:

Stuart Taylor ‘It was unbelievable out there -the course was in fantastic condition!’

‘The Dunham Head greenkeeper really knows his stuff – that was brilliant’ Announced Mike Wainwright.

‘That was great – the only thing I don’t like about this course is all the trees’. Said a confused Nigel Ashton.

‘Testament to the drainage! That was terrific’ Reported friendly Irishman Pat O’Dowd.

Russell Sollitt has got an incredible 4 double letters in his name. He carried on this theme by making a double bogey at a few holes during his round. He did however make a two on the thirteenth to win some golf balls. Playing partner Martin Cox asked him if he wanted a drink in the bar.
‘Mines a double’ Replied Russell.

Pete Fotheringhan finishes his round and normally gets a call from his wife telling him to get home as quick as possible to get through a long list of jobs. Today he got a phone call telling him not to go home. He thought he was really in the dog house, but his wife explained to him that Whaley Bridge was being evacuated. The huge reservoir dam wall has a structural fault which could have catastrophic consequences. Maxitours player Alan Booth overheard the story – ‘If the dam breaks it will only cause about a tenners worth of damage in Whaley Bridge’ He chuckled.

In todays event Leighs Pete Doran(18), Brian Flynn(24) Brian Hitchin(17) and Keith Park(20) were delighted to take 3rd place with 86 points. Keith Park and Brian Hitchen hit some incredible chips to keep their score ticking over nicely.

New Mills Tony Jennison (5)Chris Marshall (13)Richard Blackwell(13) and John Hilton(14) took 2nd place with 87 points the likeable quartet could only pick up two points on the 16th hole which proved costly.

Winning was Fixbys Mike Newey(15), Mike Dempsey(11), Arthur Gray(15) and John Dickenson(20). The closing four holes at Dunham are incredibly tough and whilst most teams were dropping shots these fellas picked up four shots to move through the field. Well played chaps, Great score!

Thanks to everyone for your 100% attendance today, Brilliant.

Results from leafy Lymm

**Space have just come free at Dunham Forest next Thursday!!! – room for 2 or 4 players at this premier venue!**
Maxitours at leafy Lymm

Lymm was the latest majestic venue to host a Maxitours event. The course was presented in immaculate condition by head greenkeeper Rick Sinker and his staff who were out early this morning ironing their stunning greens. There was plenty of praise from my players for this vastly under-rated gem:
‘What a course – I didn’t even know Lymm had a golf course’ Declared Les Russon.
‘I Thought the course was fantastic!’ Announced Ian Goulty
‘That was exceptional – I might bring our Captains day here.’ Said an impressed Frank Hill.

I always like the friendly Club atmosphere whenever I visit at Lymm and Head pro Steve McCarthy and his assistant Fizz are great lads who couldn’t do enough for me today- thank you very much.

John Johnston is a lovely Irishman and he just returned to England after watching the terrific Open taking place in his home town of Portrush. We both see each other in Cottons gym and we have regular chats near the chocolate vending machine. I only found out today that he was very, very high up in the Inland revenue. John found the golf course taxing today and he refused to give me his self-assessment when I asked him how he played.

Bored Johhny Barton fancies himself as a poet and he handed me a piece of paper with ‘Lymmerick’ written on it.
‘There was a young fellow from Lymm,
Who went to play golf on a whim,
He hit his first drive in to a bee hive,
And so his second, a stinger, was grim!
Thanks very much Johnny. Don’t give up the day job.

Also on the bee theme- David Treadwell was in his garden yesterday and had argument with a wasps nest and he ended up with 14 stings on his legs. The pain continued today for the likeable church-organ playing man after his team could only manage 61 points and a last place finish.

Nigel Ashton is a proper Northerner and I overheard him talking to his team after his round. ‘It’s too hot.- Ah prefer pullover weather’.
‘Ah think the Climates changing – it was definitely hotter today than yesterday.’ You can’t argue with that.

Dave Smith had yet another uneventful round on the golf course and fails to win a prize yet again. The highlight of his day was when a Buzzard tried to fly off with his ball on the 15th hole.

Les Russons Bramall team took 4th spot with 85 points but they were pipped by Richard Blackwells Mottram Hall team who had the same score but a slightly better back nine to take a deserved 3rd place.

Famous retired Liverpool solicitor Jim Rymer(18) is playing golf with the Bishop of Liverpool next week. His team of john Dickenson(20) Pete Newey(15) and Peter Griggs(16) had some divine intervention on the course as a poor 37 points on the front nine was followed up with a miracle 49 points on the back nine!

Taking first place was the Jon Hudson(10) Bramall Park team. These four lovely guys play each month without any success, They actually won a callaway shirt each seven years ago and insist on wearing them every time they play. Today the lucky shirts paid off and they romped home with an excellent 89 points. Great golf chaps, well played! Mike Hill(6) Rob Blane(17) and Gary Brooks(10) made up the quartet.
