Maxitours at super Stockport

Stockport was bone dry for todays Maxitours event.
The wonderful greens were cut and ironed this morning ready for todays event. Excellent work.

The club improves all the time and is currently being refurbished. The bar will be raised even higher when the work is completed this April.

Dan in the pro shop is a star and can’t do enough for me. He takes out the nearest the pin markers with a smile on his face. Top man.

The cool Easterly breeze ensured a few rosy faces in the Clubhouse after play. Paul Price had a very red face after setting a new Maxitours record when he achieved ‘the shortest putt ever missed to win some balls in the sweep’. His 5 inch effort actually missed the hole completely. He was very quiet in the clubhouse after his round.

Martin Mellor is crazy about golf. He played 18 holes today. I asked him if he was playing on Wednesday:
‘No. I’ve had major shoulder surgery. I’ve played this weekend and I’m playing tomorrow but I’m seeing my shoulder consultant on Wednesday so I can’t play. He is hopefully giving me permission to start playing again.’

Veteran nice guy Tim Spencer is incredibly positive his team finished second last today.
‘Success was just getting around and being alive.’ Very true. It looked like he had actually died on the front nine when he didn’t feature on the card but was resuscitated with a couple of pars on the back nine.

Prestbury had three teams playing at Stockport. New President Simon Moorhead and new Captain Martin Prescott both played in separate teams but they were overshadowed by less important Steve Saunders and his team who has spent most of his Maxitours career at the bottom of the results table but a solid 83 points saw them achieve their best ever Maxitours finish- in 8th place.

In todays event everyone’s favourite Martin Humphries led his team of Tony Hereford, Jim Heywood and Barry Caldwell into 3rd place.

Second place went to Ashton In Makerfields Paul Woods, Andrew Dean, Kevin Sharratt and Phillip Molyneux.

But winning with 89 points was Davenports Richard Blackwell, John Hilton, Steve Austin and Tony Jennison. The likeable quartet played some great golf today and were delighted with their victory. Jennison (5) was the star player with four birdies and an eagle on the 12th hole. Well played chaps.

Thanks to everyone for your 100% attendance. Incredible,

Tim

Algarvian Classic final day results

Algarvian Classic Final Day at Amazing Laranjal.

Glorious sunshine and an even more glorious golf course were the order of the day today.
Laranjal took things to a new level and was enjoyed by all. Tiger Woods played here a few years ago and they closed the course and practice round for the day to give him some privacy. He rated it highly and you can see why.

I went out on the course a couple of times this week to watch some golf. Normally it is a mystery to me how my various Maxitours clients play the game. I only normally chat to them before and after their rounds so I was fascinated to see how they crafted their way around a tough test of golf.

I caught up with the first group and parked 30 yards to the left of the 7th hole at Quinta. Bob Manley hit a magnificent wild hook which hit my buggy. Five minutes later I then drove over to the 4th in time to see Pete Norbury hit a low slice which ricochet off playing partner Dave Sarsfields knee.

I decided to go back to the clubhouse where it was safe and watch the football instead. On the way back I saw Steve Latchford who asked me if I had seen his 7 iron because he’d lost it in a bush.
I will stay in the Clubhouse and have a club sandwich instead next year.

In todays event there were big moves from the talented Prestbury Michael Thomas mixed team and James Fieldings Davenport team who both scored well on a tough Laranjal golf course.

The three leading teams all played well but it was experienced Galvin Green sales agent Jon Gallagher, top chef Matt Barratt, Insurance supremo John Woosey and Steve Ashurst (no idea what he does) who take first prize after a best of the day 85.
The Dave Rhodes Saddleworth team took second and Paul Dalby led his Wilmslow team into third place.

Well played everyone. Thanks for making the trip so enjoyable to run, not a single issue all week, your integrity is second to none. I hope you enjoyed your holiday!

Yours in golf, Tim

Maxitours at wonderful Warrington

A great day was enjoyed by all at Warrington, the Club is incredibly friendly and a firm favourite with my players. It was really nice touch to see Club Chairman John Hopkins welcoming our players on the first tee. He can feel proud of this terrific Club.

Thanks also to highly rated Club Manager Lisa Yates who is terrific to work with.

Players were incredibly complimentary throughout the day about the quality of the greens for February. New greenkeeper David Steventon is doing a terrific job and his reputation is rapidly growing. When I arrived at 8am this morning the green keepers were carefully hand cutting the 18th and the course was set up to a very high standard indeed.

Angela who works behind the bar is also a firm favourite with my players. You hear her before you see her but she is a friendly face who enjoys her job:

‘I love your players, some societies we get never crack a smile but your players are great!’ She told me. Thanks Angela – you are the best.

In todays event scoring was excellent as players made the most of the shortened course and smooth putting surfaces. Heyrose’s Phil Dickens, Steve Blakeway, Neil Evans and Paul Robinson took third narrowly losing out on a card play off to Mick Mahon, Richard Palmer , Munro Donald and Andy Faulkner who made the most of their warm weather training in Portugal last month.

Winning were four players also sporting sun tanned faces.

Dave Rhodes, Dave Sarsfield, Lee Tilley and Pete Norbury are incredibly close mates from Saddleworth. They had a shocking season last year but they found some form recently and were delighted with first place today.

Well played guys.

Thanks to all players for your integrity, I had a quick look at the 18th green when we finished playing and there was not a pitchmark in sight. Thank you so much.

Yours in golf,

Tim.

Maxitours at magnificent Mottram

MAXITOURS AT “MAGNIFICENT” MOTTRAM

Maxitours players were greeted to a frosty start to the day but with it being a gloriously sunny day it didn’t take too long for the greens to thaw out and everyone was treated to a perfect afternoon with hardly a breath of wind.

The course was presented in great condition for the time of year so big congratulations to the Head Green Keeper Alistair and his dedicated team.

Also to Jill in the Clubhouse with the coffee/tea and bacon rolls offerings prior to play which many players took advantage of – thanks for your support.

Thanks to my good friend Matt Turnock PGA Professional at Mottram Hall for running my event today efficiently as ever whilst my 2nd Algarvian Trip takes place this week.

I hope you had a great day.

Congratulations to the Winning Sale Gc team with two Cheshire senior players – Moby Rawthore and Austin McBride, talented Richard Nicholson and Neil Griffiths. Not many shots flying around – excellent.

Tim.
