Maxitours Algarvian Classic Day 2 at The South Course, Quinta do Lago

What a great tournament we have on our hands!

Stunning golfing conditions greeted the 60 Algarvian competitors at this tremendous Portuguese Open venue.
The best players in the world have graced this golf course over the years Seve, Faldo, Monty even Big Jack has competed here but today it had the likes of Paul Evans and Dave Madely enjoying the challenge.

Tees were a little further back than normal so scoring was tougher than yesterday.

Best score of the day was incredibly from the Knutsford team of Adam Carolan, Rob Sims, Ben Davies and Eddie Ellis with a brilliant 82 points which sees them move through the field into 6th place despite two big Vilamoura nights.

Paul Dalbys Wilmslow team were 2nd with 81 points, closely followed by Dave Sarsfield and Jon Gallagher teams with solid second round 80’s.

Saturday is moving day and Munro Donalds four ball were hoping to climb the leaderboard after lying in 14th out of 15 teams Unfortunately they moved back a shot and are in last place. Lovely people though.

Can the Mere team of Jon Gallagher (scr), Matt Barratt(11) John Woosey(11) and Steve Ashurst(18) hold their nerve tomorrow under intense pressure. They were looking a bit jumpy today. Those Saddleworth guys in 2nd place can play.

Get to bed if you want to win guys.

Laranjal tomorrow. Now that is another great golf course!

Tim.

Maxitours at Europes finest golfing venue 2024 – Quinta North Day 1 results

Quinta North was in terrific condition for todays first round of the Algarvian Classic 2. The greens were incredibly fast and rolling beautifully.

Here are photos of all of todays players- big thanks to Holidays4Golfers Mark Earnshaw for taking them.

https://photos.app.goo.gl/atYTfqAiuHQ61s5t8

Hopwoods mixed team of the Wakefields and the Heywoods lie in 4th place with 80 points. Richard is delighted that there is a great golfer I the Wakefield family, wife Janet playing off a twenty three handicap had five pars today as the Hopwood mixed team made a strong start.

Saddleworths Lee Tilley, Dave Sarsfield, Dave Rhodes and Pete Norbury are lying in 3rd after scoring 83 points and the Wilmslow ‘A’ team of John Bent, Steve Latchford, Kevin Quinn and Chris Cyprus lie in second with 84 points.

Leading the way by three shots is the Stockport team of John Gallagher, Matt Barratt, John Woosey and Steve Ashurst.

A majestic birdie by John Woosey at the last sealed an eight point haul to finish a very solid round in style.

We play Quinta South tomorrow- the courses just keep getting better and wall to wall sunshine is expected!

Take it easy out there tonight,

Tim

Revised results from Shrigley Hall

Dear Maxitours players,

Yesterday I missed the scorecard of the Charismatic Bramall Park team of Jon Hudson, Mike Hill, Geoff Allsop and Paul Hughes- they played great to narrowly miss out on victory by a single shot- eventually finishing in 4th with 86 points.

Well played guys. I also missed off twos from unattractive Barry Caldwell and attractive Janet Heywood.

Good luck to all my Algarvian Classic competitors next week. The forecast is once again excellent.
Next years trip details should be released in the next 7 days. Life is too short to miss out on golf in the January sun.

Still room for 2 teams at Mottram Hall on Thursday. Excellent forecast – play golf on a dry course!

Thanks Tim

Results from super Shrigley Hall

Maxitours at super Shrigley Hall

Last nights heavy downpour didn’t stop the well-draining Shrigley Hall course from hosting todays event. Indeed the main issue was some morning mist which reduced visibility for the early starters. More than one team informed me that they were much better when they couldn’t see where they were going.

The final month of Winter begins tomorrow and it was great to see the snow drops appearing around the golf course, there were even a few daffodils looking ready to bloom. Hopefully we have broken the back of winter and a glorious Summer awaits us..

Humble Jonny Barton was late checking in.

His team couldn’t remember his handicap – I think he’s a 15 or 16 suggested Chris Walley.

‘I’m much worse than that’ Admitted Jonny when he eventually turned up. ‘I’m surprised my team didn’t know what a bad player I am.’

He actually played well today and was delighted with a 4th place finish.

Three teams shared 1st place on 87 points. This was a great score despite a few forward tees as the course was still playing long and tough.

Sun tanned Mick Mahon and his team of Richard Palmer, Nick Tomlinson and Alan Moorby recently returned after a successful showing in the Algarvian Classic, they continued their fine form finishing 3rd on the card play off.

Martin Humphries, Barry Caldwell, Paul Woods and Jonny Lee took 2nd but picking up 46 points on the closing nine was Dukinfields John Harrop, Chris Burnett, Neil Hodgkiss and Lee Compton.

Excellent golf, well played guys.

Thanks for all your support today.

A lovely day was enjoyed by all.

Maxitours at flipping cold Fleetwood

Many thanks to the nearly full field of Maxitours competitors for braving the elements at Fleetwood today. The rain was not too heavy but a brisk and cool Westerly wind made for testing conditions.

The fairways and greens were firm and dry and players shoes were a little damp after the rain but there were no muddy trousers and the links turf was a pleasure to play off.

‘Those greens are terrific!’ Reported Dave Rhodes – ‘They are slick!’

The course was playing so long into the heavy wind Jim Cox thought he was playing with a punctured golf ball. ‘That was tough’ Admitted the Denton legend. The wind strengthened later in the day as storm Eowyn started to hit the mainland.

I had a quick drive into Fleetwood to have a quick look around the promenade and other attractions. I thought that us golfers were daft but there was a lone chap happily sailing his model boat on the choppy boating lake. Living the dream.

I knew it was going to be a long day when John Fitzsimmons gave me his player’s names this morning.

‘I’m playing with Barry Wilson, Steve Aspinall and his wife Barbara but I can’t remember Barbara’s surname’ He told me.

‘Its not Aspinall is it?’ I asked him. ‘Oh yeah, that’s right’

Thanks so much for playing today everyone – the forecast wasn’t great but your integrity is always appreciated and part of the reason we get invited back to these clubs each year.

Scoring was tough but the gritty Denton team of Neale Laurent, John Harrop, Gary Berrisford and Lee Compton pipped the Sandiway team on the card play off.

Well played lads- great fighting.

Yours in golf, Tim
