MAXITOURS AT “FRESH AND CRISP” CROSLAND HEATH

Many thanks again to my good friend PGA Pro Matt Turnock from Mottram Hall for running my event today whilst I was away in Turkey playing in with my partner from Knutsford G.C.

A frosty and crisp start to the morning was quickly thawed out by the brilliant clear sunny skies and with very little wind it was a pleasure to be out on such a nice day for the Maxitours contingent.

Those who played here last winter distinctly recounted the strong winds and rain sweeping across the course so were grateful of a enjoying the course more this time round.
A big thanks also to the clubhouse staff headed by Toby Garrett, their hospitality and catering was second to none however the ravenous Maxitours players apparently cleared them out completely of bacon and sausage baps !!!!

The scoring was very tight in the end with the team of Gary Owen, Same Beverley, Alistair Holloway and Alan Gayle coming out on top on a card countback better back 9.
Thanks for all your support,
I enjoyed running the day,
Matt.

Maxitours at Magical Mottram Hall

Maxitours at magical Mottram.

Mottram was in truly great condition for todays event. The greens were frozen for the early starters and it took great imagination and intelligence to make a good score. Firm greens and soft surrounds meant conditions were almost US Open like- except for the snow and ice.

Everything started to turn green mid morning as the sun blessed my players loyalty. Thanks to Alastair and his team – yet again the best green keepers in the industry keep the golf courses and full greens open – excellent.

The cold was no problem to retired fire fighter Kev Hart. He has a huge firemans’ pension and his new ‘all singing and dancing’ car has a heated steering wheel, heated seats and heated gear stick. He said that when he was on duty in Salford if they were called out to a fire in the Winter they sometimes let it burn for a bit so they could warm up. I think he was joking.

Scoring was excellent as some of the bigger hitting teams took advantage of the forward tees.

Pure ball striker Pete Moores and his team took 4th place with 82 points. They were pipped by the talented Nigel Ashton, Pete Fotheringham, Colin Bryan and nearest the pin winner Mike Lowe. You will be delighted to hear Mike didn’t miss the 3 inch tap in on the 11th – unfortunately he didn’t enter the sweep.

Dentons Jim Cox, Ian George, Dave Jenkinson and Andy Sandham took 2nd with a solid 83 points. Jenkinsons eagle on the 9th was worth a very welcome 5 points. Terrific.

Chris Rice (scr) caddies for Harold Varner on the Liv tour. He only works 14 weeks of the year and is bored senseless for the other 38. He is a top golfer as well as a world class caddy and he helped his Knutsford team around Mottram Hall today. It was 18 handicapper Harry Kenyon who did the damage playing the tougher back nine in three over par- excellent.
Likeable lads Tom Roe(8) and Sam Sanger (1) completed the team. This is the first ever win for a team comprising four Knutsford members after 17 years of trying. Well done guys- delighted for you.

Things warm up next week so it will be tee shirts at Crosland Heath on Thursday.

Thanks so much for your support, Tim.

Mottram ON!!!!

Hi guys

I played yesterday at Mottram and the greens were hard but rolling really well, but we had a great day out there.

Ive just inspected the course with alistair the head green keeper. The course is great – just frosty and a bit of ‘snow dust’ but very playable indeed.

Come on down

Anything is better than christmas shopping with your wife (or husband)

Alistiar is a fantastic green keeper and assures me that playing greens in frost causes no damage – he has done it for years and never seen any damage-his greens are up there with the best in Cheshire- great work.

Tim

Mottram course inspection

Hi guys
We have had a flutter of snow in knutsford – I am heading to Mottram now to see if they are still clear and will update the website at 8.15

Hopefully they have had no snow and it is fit for play

Tim
