Maxitours at dry Delamere + Ringway start sheet

Maxitours at blustery (but very dry!) Delamere

England and Wales were on flood alert today and many areas were battered by strong winds and heavy rain. Incredibly, Delamere Forest was a tranquil little oasis for a group of happy golfers enjoying the blustery but dry conditions.
‘We’ve dodged one hell of a bullet’ was the general consensus of the 85 golfers who really enjoyed one of the finest inland courses in the North.

Full figured Alex Jerman was delighted with his away day at Delamere Forest. ‘The course was superb and incredibly dry. I also think that serving pastries behind the bar is a great idea. I haven’t had a sausage roll for years- its brilliant here!’

Brothers Steven and Jason Ballard from Shotsaver are terrific Maxitours sponsors. Due to their Mediterranean good looks and sense of style they are very often mistaken for the charismatic and talented Italian Molinari brothers. Unfortunately when playing on the course they often get mistaken for the Marx brothers. Today Jason teamed up with big hitting Moby Rawthore and he was overjoyed to finish in a career best 2nd place on 42 points.

Carl Kennedy and Kit Parkington from Northenden reached the turn in 24 points and picked up a further 3 points on both the 10th and 11th holes. The increasing wind speed and the intense pressure associated with winning such a major event on the sporting calendar, saw the likeable duo dropping shots on the back nine faster than Roman Abramovich sacks his managers.

The badly dressed duo of Terry Davison and Arthur Jowell normally finish well below the middle of the field each week. The main reason they support Maxitours Events is in order to sample the wide variety of beers on offer throughout Cheshire . Today, after another less than average nine holes, Jowell could be seen salivating as he looked across from the 9th green towards the warm Delamere bar. Davison then eagled the 11th hole to earn five points for his team. Jowell (who owns half of Macclesfield) then birdied the 13th and 14th before Davison made a superb birdie at the last. They looked stunned as they entered the clubhouse and their 42 point haul was good enough for 2nd place. ‘I’ll have a pint to celebrate’ said Jowell.

Winning todays event was the pairing of Dave Marchant and Bob Sinclair. These two terrific blokes have played each week for the past five years without a victory to their name. Today they teed off first in the calm conditions and destroyed the Delamere course. ‘It was like an outer body experience’ said the Alsager men as they recorded four birdies on their way to 46 points and a four shot win.
Very well played indeed chaps.

Maxitours at Prestbury Golf Club.

What a glorious day! The weather was incredible and Prestbury Golf Club was in excellent condition for todays latest Maxitours event.

Zlatan Ibrahimavics amazing overhead kick for Sweden last night has been quoted by many top football pundits as perhaps the best goal ever scored. Ex-England manager Graham Taylor said he had never seen anyone strike a ball with such amazing power and accuracy from such an outlandish body position. It is very clear he has never witnessed Maxitours regular Geoff Cogswell playing golf.

Seventy six year old Neville Dennis is a local golfing celebrity. After a terrific front nine of 45 points his team of ‘B’ listers started to hit the ball into the Prestbury jungle. Neville was quietly thinking to himself ‘Get me out of here!’ as they only managed 36 points on the back nine.

Malc Wells (4) plays more golf than a Tour pro. Malc talks like a tour pro. Malc tries to dress like a Tour Pro. Today his playing partners nearly fell over as Malc for once actually played like a tour pro. Some terrific driving and iron play saw him guide his team into an excellent 4th position with 84 points.

Despite dropping two shots on their first hole, third place went to the Pleasington team of Pete Bedford(6), Andrew Walsh(2), Mark Walsh(11) and Nick Pedley(14). The pale faced Lancastrians migrated South today, in search of the warm Cheshire sunshine. They were delighted to return to their damp homeland with a prize.

Two handicapper Mark Richardson is a class golfer. He is also set to become a local Celebrity when he appears on Dragons Den this Sunday evening (absolutely true). Today his team of Charles Herbert(17), Brian Hopkins(6) and Andy Stubbens(6) watched in awe as Mark scored three birdies and a terrific eagle helping them into 2nd place with 85 points.

First place went to the big hitting Wychwood Park team of Eddy Sterling(7), Gary Nixon(10), Henry Narroway(14) and Kristian Oakes. Gary had a terrific run of five holes on the back nine, playing them in two under to give his team a real boost. Very well played gentlemen!

Nearest to the pin on the 7th was won by the vastly underrated Bob Sutton, Alan Pengelly took the honours at the 17th hole.

Wonderful Wilmslow + Prestbury start sheet ***10.45am shotgun****

Maxitours at Wonderful Wilmslow

The first Maxitours visit to the fantastic Wilmslow Golf Club was a tremendous success. The Club manager Keith Melia made us all feel very welcome and the Autumn sunshine and stunning scenery ensured a very enjoyable day.
‘This beats a normal Monday morning at work’ said a delighted Paul Dalby as he whistled his way onto the first tee.

Wilmslow Golf Club held the European Tours’ Manchester Open which was won by Nick Faldo in 1982. The superb venue entertained all the top players from Europe and Australia . Thirty years later one of the older Wilmslow members thought he saw Greg Norman on the course today, and I had to reassure him it was only the aggressive swinging and Golden haired Mark Green.

I must admit I got a little excited myself a little later when I spotted Craig Stadler setting up to hit his approach shot into the 18th green. I soon calmed down after recognising David Fellowes’ unique backswing and follow through.

‘I’m really looking forward to playing today’ remarked Andy Sandham ‘I hit everything with a nice little draw and this course suits me.’ Playing partner Dave Collinson nearly fell over ‘I’ve never seen you hit a little draw. You either hit a slinging out of control right to left shape or a snap hook out of bounds.’

The car park at some Maxitours event can sometimes be quite impressive. Today Colin Lynch turned up in his trademark Black Ferrari California . Unfortunately this was overshadowed by his son’s bright orange Lambourghini.

Competitive Steve Best was so keen to play today he was even prepared to be paired up with a partner he had never met ‘Is he any good Maxi?’ he inquired. Steve was hoping for a young, strong, talented, big hitting and athletic partner who looked like he would guarantee plenty of birdies. You could see him trying to conceal his immense disappointment when he was introduced to Tony Ball. The two battled their way to a very average 36 points.

On the golf course Gary Garner (7) and Mark Green (12) were on fire as they scored 25 points on the front nine, unfortunately they couldn’t keep it up as they returned in just 18 to take 4th place. Lee Tilley(11) and Dave Rhodes(12) failed to score any points on the second hole however a strong finish by the charismatic Saddleworth businessmen saw them finish in a career best third position.

Second place went to Moby Rawthore (3) and Pete ‘For gods sake don’t tell the wife I’m playing’ Moores (11). A terrific birdie by Moores on the 1st hole helped them on their way.

Taking todays honours with a magnificent 47 points were the likeable Tytherington duo Martin Firth (7)and Andy Taylor (14). These two big hitters from Mexico(?) are regularly in the prizes however a two shot Maxitours general play reduction should slow them down a little! Great golf chaps, very well played.
