Results from ridiculously good Romiley

Romiley was the latest superb Golf Club to host a Maxitours event . I don’t think I have ever had as many golfers tell me that they had such a great day.
‘I really enjoyed that! ’Reported Alan Leigh.
‘That is superb- sign me up for next year!’ Begged Jack Coleman.
‘That is one of the best courses I have played for a long time’. Dale Wallace beamed.
‘What a beautiful course!’ Praised six handicapper Paul Browne ‘I never knew Romiley was this good,,those greens were also rolling brilliantly.’

This is a lovely place to play golf. The course layout is clever and the course is always excellent in the Summer months. Many thanks Romiley, we will be back by popular demand next year!

Thanks to all the catering staff, especially the long haired Barman who did the late shift. He pumped up the clubhouse music with some 70’s classics to liven me up at the end of the day.

Donna Sully’s team witnessed a miracle when she managed to hit a magpie on the head with her tee shot on the 8th fairway. I asked her if it survived and she said that it was fine and just flew away. Either Magpies are tough around here or she uses a very soft compression golf ball or she doesn’t hit it hard enough. You decide.

Jack Colemans team are lovely guys but they are right up there with the worst teams ever to compete in Maxitours events. They were overjoyed to record 72 points today. I have never seen four average golfers look so happy.

In today’s event three teams scored 82 points to share second place and they all scored 39 on the front nine and 43 on the slightly easier closing nine!

Losing the back six play off was Jim Clarke (11) Chris Clarke (12) Cameron Isherwood (5) and Pete Ledger (18) .This competitive team has had a very quiet few months by their high standards but they were getting back to their best today.

Bob Pickthalls(15) team Birchwood finished 3rd Rob Roden(13) Dave Thomas(18) and Steve Lamont(8) all played well for a change.

The Denton team of Garry Owen (10) Alistair Holloway (13) Mark Bone (11) and Steven Yeadon (11) won the card play off thanks mainly to the seven points they picked up on the tough 16th hole. Excellent.

Taking 1st place was Stockport Golf Clubs Jonny Lord (15) and Sun tanned Swinton primary school teacher Jonny Noblet (6) they teamed up with Rhos on Sea’s Alex Jarman (6) and Ed Stubbs (18).
This was the XENTUM sponsors team who do a great job supporting our order of merit and the team had never played with each other before – they all contributed well to win by an impressive 5 shots.

Great golf guys – everyone goes home happy when the sponsor team wins !

Many thanks for your 100% attendance. Incredible.

results from magnificent Manchester

Maxitours at High Class Hopwood

Maxitours visited Manchester Golf Club (Hopwood) today.
The course has improved magnificently in recent years and there was no sign of that trend stopping with so many positive reports from my players throughout the day.

‘The Greens are absolutely fantastic.’ Announced Dave Horsley.
Affluent Simon Burgess from Macclesfield thinks this is his favourite course in the North and Paul Woodbine who is an expert at everything to do with golf thinks that: ‘Hopwood is the finest test of golf in Manchester’.

Catering manager Steve Flett and his safe staff did a brilliant job as usual.

Richard Blackwell nearly hit one of the twelve deer that reside in the wood to the left of the 14th hole. These beautiful beasts are shy creatures and stay in the deep undergrowth so they live peacefully and are rarely disturbed. They were startled by the lack of accuracy shown by the Mottram man.

The new government rules stipulate they face masks are to be worn in shops next week but a few players today were asking where you can buy them from.
‘You can borrow Graham Jackson’s bandit mask – he’s got a few of them spare in his golf bag’ Chuckled his team mate Mark Hagerty.

In my events players are photographing any shots which are close to the pin as markers are not put out for sanitary reasons at the moment.
Steve Hall is an optimist and he needed to choose wide angled landscape on his phone to fit his ball and flag on the same photograph.
He was 12 yards away and the green is only 13 yards wide.
You were only beaten by about half the field Steve – very unlucky.

In today’s event there were 8 teams in the lead on 82 points before a flurry of excellent scoring in the middle of the day as the wind completely dropped. Bramall’s Les Russon(11) Steve Rosier(16) Ken Clarke(16) and Paul Carroll (16) took 3rd with 87 points
Swinton Parks Paul Verdon(7) Andy Mansfield(18) Jay Smethurst(11) and Mike Davies(24) matched that score with a better back nine to finish second.

Leading the way today was the on-form Lymm team of Martin France(2) Ed Wilkinson(5) Roger Percival(5) and Pete Atherton(11). Despite a handicap reduction after a recent win this likeable foursome got off to a great start with Percival playing the first three holes three under par. A strong back nine saw them collect 88 points and moved them to the top of the XENTUM order of merit

Well played chaps great score

Thanks again everyone for your 100% attendance. What a great day.

Maxitours at Lovely Lancaster

Maxitours at lovely Lancaster

Maxitours players visited one of Lancashire’s finest golf courses today.

‘That is a great golf course !’ Declared Niall Lynch.
‘Lancaster! -What a brilliant venue!’ Announced knowledgeable Rob Kenyon.
‘Best Clubhouse I have ever seen!’ Reported Architect Francis Dean.

Thanks to everyone at this friendly Golf Club for making us feel so welcome. Even the Captain popped in to introduce himself and Niall (the steward) and his staff were really terrific with our guys today. The new Covid restrictions were in place, very safe and well thought out- well done Lancaster!

It doesn’t take very much to keep Dutch nice guy Koos Alders happy. He burst into the Clubhouse ‘Did you see zat shot of mine into ze eighteenf ole?
‘No, sorry’
‘I hit it to tventy von veet’
Well done Koos – zat is weally gut.

I was reading the sign by the clubhouse that warned people not to congregate in the area as you are in danger of being hit by a stray 18th tee shot. I was wondered why it was there as it would take a very wild shot to reach the Clubhouse- until I heard a little bit of rustling as Pete Ledger lined up his approach from under a nearby bush.

Can somebody tell Arthur Young that lockdown is now over and the hairdressers are open for business. I am not sure what he was struggling to control the most. His hair or his golf ball. Both were had a mind of their own after being buffeted by the North sea breeze.

Bryson De Chambeau has put on a few stone and is hitting the ball further. In an amazing coincidence Ed Wilkinson has also put on exactly the same amount of weight but he is actually defying the odds by hitting it a bit shorter than he used to. Incredible.

In todays event scoring was poor with nearly half the field failing to break par. Either conditions were tough or everyone is getting worse.

Simon Hemsleys Bramall team like going out first and they laid down a good marker with 82 points. Ian King(6) Gareth Bradley(+3) and Joe Kirwan (6) are all on good form.

This score led for much of the day before Mick Mahon(22) equalled it but had a superior back nine. Mick won his first event for years three weeks ago and then followed it up with last place. But he proved it was no fluke today as Richard Palmer(10) John Farnsworth (22)and Dave Westwood (18) all played well to take second on the card play off.

There was no sign of the wind easing and scores remained on the high side until the popular Antrobus Golf Club steward Dave Buckley(17) , Jim Spears(15) Pete Stewart(9) and Will Lancaster(2) came home in 44 points after an average front nine to score 83 points and take first place. .They picked up five shots on the closing three holes. Lancaster was on fire at Lancaster. The likeable young man had SEVEN birdies. Brilliant. Well played chaps.

Thanks for our 100% attendance. Terrific.
