Maxitours Update

Dear Maxitours players,

I really hope you are all safe and well and looking forward to playing some great golf on your home courses this week- brilliant.

I am waiting for England Golf guidelines to be clarified over the coming days to help me get a better idea as to when my events may restart.

Currently two balls, 10 minute intervals and member only golf looks to be the order of the day for at least a week but I will be in regular contact with venues and will let you know as soon as I get the green light for my events to proceed.

Take it easy on the course. After a long lay off don’t try and hit your country best off the 1st tee as you might do yourself an injury. (Especially older golfers like Paul Woodbine and Neale Laurent.)

See you very soon I hope,

Yours in Golf and Friendship,

Tim

Event news.

Dear Maxitours player,

Firstly and most importantly I really hope you are all safe and well.

Many thanks to all those players who have wished me well over the past few weeks. My business has ground to a halt but Mrs Maxwell is restricted to buying essential goods only so I am managing to get by!

Hopefully there is now a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel and golf courses may open in a few weeks time (fingers crossed). I am sure you are looking forward to getting you golf careers back on track!! .

As soon as the government deems it is safe and we get the green light my events will of course resume immediately.

If you are planning to play some Summer golf on some great courses I do still have very limited spaces in the following events:

Dunham Forest 4th June
Hazel Grove 11th June
Davenport 25th June
The Welsh Classic 29th +30th June
Davyhulme 6th Aug
Vale Royal 10th Aug
Bramall Park 11th Aug
Ringway 27th Aug
Didsbury 10th Sept
Hopwood 17th Sept
Helsby 24th Sept
Leigh 2nd Oct
Llangollen 9th Oct
Prestbury Chatrity Day 15th Oct
Stockport 19th Oct
Dunham Forest 29th Oct

We are all pulling together and I am sure we all would like to thank Maxitours players who are currently on the front line working for the NHS and other essential services. Keep up the great work you are doing a superb job.

Yours in Golf and Safety,

Tim

The Xentum Classic at superb Dunham Forest

*Next weeks Cheshire Classic -Hopefully the two day event will go ahead at Prestbury and Mottram Hall if we are not in lockdown. (2 team spaces – but teams must play both days)
Your safety is paramount and I will attempt to go over and beyond correct procedures to allow play to continue.

Current position: After consulting many people and various groups and after guidance from the PGA and Golf England Maxitours will go fully hands free at Prestbury and Mottram Hall next week

Team Score cards will be on the 1st tee for team captains to complete. After the round scorecards must be photographed and emailed /WhatsApped to me upon leaving the 18th green.

Teams will therefore only interact with their own 4 ball and the golf course is a safe place to be.

The doors will be wedged open at both venues so no need for a code

I will be around all day but want to keep any social Interaction to a complete minimum

Catering and clubhouse information will follow.

Maxitours Xentum Classic at amazing Dunham

Thanks to all players for your terrific support today. I think everyone found it a great release from our current issues.

David Lippiate continues to do an amazing job as head green keeper at Dunham Forest and the greens were hand cut and ironed for our players first thing this morning. I think that they are currently the best greens in Cheshire and that was certainly the feedback from all my players today.

Mike and Leslie Saxon’s bar staff are also possibly the best we deal with all year. Beth and Kirsty are a real credit to Dunham Forest and a smile is never too far away with these superstars faces- thank you.

Martin Humphries world has fallen apart as there has been no sport on television and they have even stopped filming his favourite Coronation street. It was suggested that we could televise Maxitours instead. Watching Martins’ golf swing would certainly lift the nations spirits.

The course was playing shorter than usual with all the par 5’s in range for the bigger hitters. There were four teams tied for second place with 46 points. Ian Broughan and Gary Furlong took 5th, Macclesfields Brendan Leighton(16) and my old Chemistry teacher Neil Drummond(10)took 4th.
Wilmslows’ wealthy but generous Jim Caldwell(11) and James Cash(4) had a super back nine to take 3rd place but Rich Beam lookalike Roger Percival(5) and Andy Wright(6) from Lymm had a superior last 3 holes to sneak 2nd place.

Winning the Xentum Classic today was the legendary Manchester United combination of Ryan Giggs(12) and Nicky Butt (12). Dunham member Giggs had one of the most cultured left foots in the world. Unfortunately, he plays golf right handed. It was hard man Butt who did most of the damage on the front nine but then Giggs took over in injury time with a couple of great pars on the 17th and 18th. He had to be restrained from swirling his shirt above his head and running around the Clubhouse after smashing home a three-footer at the last.
Well played chaps. Thanks to everyone for playing. What a great day.
Yours in Golf, Tim

Dunham event still on!

Dear Maxitours player.

Following government guidelines the event at Dunham Forest on Thursday will take place.

Things are changing on a day to day basis so keep those fingers cleaned and crossed.

The Clubhouse will be open and the usual menu and hospitality will be available throughout the day.

Here are some precautions it will be wise to follow:

“1.Please send me team members names and handicaps prior to Thursday so cards will be ready for a quick check in.

2. Please nominate one of your party to collect scorecards and make payment for the whole team. (or pay by bacs prior to the event. 090128 SORT 80162994 ACCT- SANTANDER)

3. Leave the flag in position when putting.

4. Players may wish to avoid busy Clubhouse areas

5. Avoid shaking hands with your playing partners after your round of golf.

6 Please cancel if you are displaying any symptoms – your health comes first.

Many thanks Tim

Galvin Green Classic at fantastic Fairhaven

The Galvin Green Classic at fantastic Fairhaven

What a great day! Nearly every course in the North West was closed today but the famous Fairhaven links was well and truly open and enjoyed by all the Maxitours players.

The staff did a great job serving our guys before play. It was the busiest they had been for months and they were brilliant. Thanks to all players for supporting the caterers after their long hard Winter.

Dave Madely is one of the nicest guys in the World. He is a well-known supporter of clubhouse caterers and stewards and he polished off two pints and a Maxitours record three omelettes before his round. Dave continued his support of the Fairhaven catering team with a long stay in the half way house and then had another meal and a couple more pints in the clubhouse after play.
He followed it up with a bag of salt and vinegar crisps for dessert.- brilliant.

A mild breeze and no rain made for testing but very enjoyable playing conditions. The greens were excellent so plenty of putts were falling.
The toughest holes for teams to score on today were the 7th 8th and 17th and the easiest was 15th followed by the 12th and the 4th so teams playing those holes twice will have scores adjusted.
Competition was close on the shortened course and teams made mince-meat of the 4 par 5 holes!!

Mike George(9) from Sale GC keeps an immaculate scorecard- that’s normally the only good thing about his game. Today he played great however and alongside Chris Iceley(18), Jim Fletcher(11) and Gordon Tilsley(14) they took 4th with 89 points.

David Waites(10) Accrington team were also on good form and they took third place. It was good to see Pete Houston(14) playing again and Conor Taylor(9) and Jordan Brown(4) completed the Lancastrian quartet.

Mike Tarrant(12), James Wilson(7), Steve Halliwell(16) and Paul Stones(13) came down through the mist from their home in the remote Darwin hills and were delighted to be playing on the firm Fairhaven turf. A great team performance also saw them score 89 points for 2nd place after a card play off.

Congratulations to Richard Blackwell(13) and his Mottram Hall team for their excellent performance today. Two gross birdies on the 12th hole saw them pick up an impressive 8 points as they had a best of the season 50 points on the easier back nine. Steve Austin(13) John Hilton(13) and Ferrari driving Colin Lynch(14)completed the team
Well played chaps great golf.

Many thanks to John Gallagher the Galvin Green rep and all-around nice guy for sponsoring today’s event and looking after my players so well throughout the year. Please take a look at Galvin Green website galvingreen.com for some quality golf clothing. It even makes me look smart sometimes.

Thanks for your support- 100% attendance again – superb.
