Maxitours at brilliant Vale Royal

Despite yesterday’s torrential deluge Vale Royal was well and truly open for today’s Maxitours event.

The course is built on sand and is a joy to play in Winter. Thanks to all the green staff for allowing us to play and for preparing the course to such a high standard. Those greens are a credit to you.

Firstly, apologies for playing off the White tees, the course was playing too long after the rain. I thought that only the white tees were out. We will be off the yellows when we return next month I promise!

Graham Harding came down from Buxton to play in Maxitours today and there was quite a thick frost on his car first thing this morning. He explained that they even have frost in July up there. He carefully cleared it away from his main windscreen using his credit card. Then he slowly scraped each window so he had a perfect view He then pressed his car key to get in and realised his car was parked further down the street. Things didn’t improve for the Derbyshire man on the golf course and it was his team who were frosty after he only contributed three times. He got out his credit card again in the bar.

Some chilly rain fell for an hour at Midday but fortunately things brightened up for everyone nicely in the afternoon. Knutsford nice guy Steve Foxcroft has a swing with more moving parts than a swiss watch. He found that wearing five layers, a daft bobble hat and a budget waterproof top severely restricted his movement. He played great with his new more efficient compact swing. He plans to wear three sweaters all Summer.

In today’s event Mellor and Townscliffe legend Chris Lee holed his 2nd shot on the 11th as he recorded two twos in his round today. The rest of his team were rubbish.

Scoring was excellent at the top end of the leader board. Jim Clarke is possibly the wealthiest man in Knutsford. He is definitely the most competitive. He led his team to a terrific 86 points and 3rd place. Abersoch’s Peter Ledger(19) did the damage today. Mark Hagarty(12) and Graham ‘the pie’ Jackson(8) also played great.

Lymm golf Club star Roger Percival(6) continued his good form alongside Ed Wilkinson(6) Martin France(2) and Josh Brand(4). Roger had four gross birdies on the back nine to seal second place on the card play-off.

Jim Caldwell is definitey the wealthiest man in Wilmslow. He can also play a bit of golf when he wants to. His team of Don Bailey(12) Steve Barlow (5) and Andrew Aherne(16) rolled in far more than their fair share of putts on the true surfaces to take first place. Well played chaps great scoring!

Thanks again for your continued integrity and 100% attendance.
One more event before Christmas!

Yours in Golf, Tim

Maxitours at reallly Superb Stockport

Space now available at terrific Vale Royal next Wednesday!!

Maxitours at superb Stockport

A great day was enjoyed by all at Stockport today. The course was in really superb condition. Many thanks to the green keeping team for doing such a brilliant job. I had plenty of positive comments as players finished their rounds:

‘That was incredible. the course was great- peak condition for December!’ Reported Lancaster’s delighted Peter Griggs.

‘Wow, their green keeper has done a fantastic job!’ Declared Ian Hellens.

Great catering and friendly staff are also a trademark of this premier Cheshire venue.-Thank you.

Thanks also to all players for your excellent speed of play withal groups getting around in just over 4 hours. Even Trevor Greening was around in good time and his team mates tell me that he is so slow he has to carry his golf clubs in a sleeping bag.

Eighteen handicapper John Atkin is a good looking, superb golfer with a classic and simple swing that is the envy of many. He has the touch of an angel. Last week the lovely Knutsford man accused me of ‘Stretching the truth’ with my post-match weather report as he played most of his morning round in the rain and I mentioned in the report what a lovely late afternoon it was…..
Very sorry John I always try to ensure everything in my report is 100% accurate.

I mentioned a few weeks ago about intelligent Roger Percival bulking up for the winter to keep him warm whilst playing in Maxitours events. He has been shedding his weight a little recently and is now only a couple of stone over his recommended weight. He recorded nearest the pin on the 16th and also had a couple of twos – well played Roger.

Neil Edwards(7) and his Ashton in Makerfield team enjoyed the fast and true Stockport greens and they took 3rd place with an impressive 85 points. House wife favourite Ste Woods(17) Adie Price(12) and Jimmy McEwan(7) completed the likeable team.

Ex Blackburn and England footballer Matt Jansen(10) and Warren Newton(10) fancied a game yesterday and they were paired up with Craig Dyson(5) and Sam Wilson(scr) who were struggling to find four players. They met each other on the tee of their first hole which was the toughest par three in Cheshire- Stockports 8th. Sam knocked in a classy birdie to get the team off to a great start and they all played great for the following 17 holes. Even Warren had back to back birdies on the 4th and 5th to keep things ticking along nicely.

Andy Buckley(9) from Sandbach couldn’t believe his luck when I teamed him up with Paul Dalby’s (6)high class Wilmslow team today. They had also never met before but had great Chemistry picking up 10 gross birdies along the way. Barney Ross(5) and Matt Birch (2) made up the talented quartet.
Well played chaps – great golf.

Maxitours at Wonderful Wilmslow Golf Club

Maxitours at wonderful Wilmslow Golf Club

Early morning rain eased and a great day was enjoyed by all at Wilmslow Golf Club in today’s Maxitours event.

Despite the overnight and morning rain the course and especially the fairways were really excellent.

Wilmslow always make us feel very welcome and their superb hospitality throughout the day was enjoyed by all. Simon and Karen have twice been voted North region stewards of the year and after their performance today a third title is surely not too far away!

Mark Ireland is a great bloke but has never won a title of any description. Despite his paltry performances each week he is always incredibly upbeat. I asked him what positives he would take out of appearing on the card just twice today. After a long think he announced ‘The nights will be drawing out soon.’

It was great to have John Harker MBE(20) from Ashton in Makerfield taking 4th place today with 86 points. John is a top man who does some great work for our ex-servicemen. Dave Parry(17) was the main contributor scoring five three pointers, Chris Bland(14) and Brian Smith(20) completed the team.

Third place went to the low handicap home Wilmslow team. Paul Dalby(6) Matt Birch(2) Phil Vokes(4) and Barney Ross(5) all used their local knowledge and contributed well.

Wealthy estate agent John Hilditch(12) has been quiet in recent months but he was back to his best today. I knew he was in for a good round when he told me one of his trademark corny jokes before he went out to play. Prestburys Iain Bartholomew(2) John Pratt (8) and John Owen(11) all did their fair share as the team looked to be heading for a win with 87 points.

As conditions improved late in the day a great score of 88 points was recorded by the Bramall Golf Club team of Steve Merricks(5), Les Russon(12) Dave Fidler (9) and plane spotter Rob Kenyon(16).
‘The last time I felt this happy was three years ago when I spotted two Ilyushayn ninety sixes from the soviet special flight squadron in Tenerife!’ Reported Rob.
Fascinating.

Thanks to everyone for your 100% attendance today.
Yours in Golf,
Tim
