Ringway times + New Shotsaver OOM + Friday-cancelled due to snow!

Dear Maxitours competitor,
Unfortunately due to the large covering of snow and ice on the Vale Royal Course and cold overnight forecasts Fridays event is cancelled. The temperatures are set to rise at the weekend so I am very optimistic that the Ringway event shall take place in the heat on Thursday next week.
Yours in Golf,
Tim

Lovely Knutsford results and Fridays Vale Royal start times

Maxitours at the lovely Knutsford Golf Club

The frost and ice did not prevent Maxitours competitors from enjoying themselves on the lovely Knutsford golf course today. With snow forecast tomorrow many husbands were keen to enjoy their last day of freedom before being ‘stranded at home with the wife’. One Maxitour competitor (who shall remain nameless) today referred fondly to his wife as ‘The FPO’ (Fun Prevention Officer).

Big Geoff Cogswell looks like he has enjoyed plenty of Tesco burgers. Stallion Geoff was in the clubhouse ‘Chomping at the bit’ to get on the golf course. On the first hole he had a big ‘horse shoe’ and by the end of his round his team requested ‘don’t Saddle us with him next week’.

As players enter the Knutsford lounge there is a low ceiling and tricky step to negotiate. It is always quite amusing to watch the clumsier members of the tour stumble into the Clubhouse. Today Keith Coxon took the honours with his triple salchow. Charles Herbert(6ft 10’) still holds top marks from last year when he managed to trip over the step and hit his head at the same time.

John Royle today celebrated his 70th birthday. He decided to wear his best pink golf shirt and a lovely pink, white and black diamond sweater to mark the occasion. A large brown sauce stain from his pre round bacon sandwich finished off the outfit nicely.

Old Jack Coleman(13) is a successful accountant from Mere. He is good company and has plenty of one-liners. I’ve no idea what it means but today’s gem was: ‘In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king’. As a respected chartered accountant you would expect him to be blessed with a well disciplined, technically correct, efficient swing. Nothing could be further from the truth. Today he played great golf however and an excellent birdie on the 9th hole helped his team including the talented Gauden brothers and Bill Gillings(13) to a career best 2nd place finish.

Taking todays honours with 81 points was the team of Malcolm Wells(2), Adam Hart(7), Bob Vickers(7) and Phil Sharp(17). Their score of 81 points included four chip-ins! Bob Vickers was their star player hitting his well controlled gentle fade which was incredibly checking up close to the flag on the frozen greens.

Thanks to everyone for playing today, apologies to those I could not fit in. Thanks also to Secretary Stuart Blake and top Greenkeeper Mark Dingle for all their help to allow the event to go ahead. Lets hope we miss the snow tomorrow! Tim.

**Important venue change for Thursday + next FRIDAY at Vale Royal times**

Dear Maxitours players,

players due to the inclement weather conditions the Caldy golf course has been closed all week, there is a thick layer of ice covering fairways and greens and unfortunately this is set to remain until the weekend.

The event has therefore been transferred to Knutsford Golf Club, I have been assured full greens will be in play. The cost will remain at £20.

I currently have 100 players for Caldy and I can only accommodate 60 at Knutsford so it will be on a first email to confirm/ first served basis. So please let me know if you wish to play ASAP.

I will email the revised start sheet this evening (start times between 10am-12pm)

Sorry for any inconvenience,

Yours in golf,

Tim.

Stunning Sandiway and Caldy 11am shotgun (spaces now available)

The Shotsaver Masters at Stunning Sandiway

Sandiway was once again in outstanding condition for todays Shotsaver Masters event. The course was dry and firm and the greens were tremendous considering it is early January.

There was plenty of rain during the course of the day and the scorecards were returned in a variety of states of repair. Immaculately dressed and well organised businessman Paul Dalby managed to return a dry well written card. Landscape gardener Dennis Bamfords card looked like it had been dragged through a hedge backwards and pet shop owner Roy Hargreaves card looked like it had been chewed on by one of his puppies.

Steve Rhodes and Carl Kennedy are two top players who always feature in the prizes. Today they struggled and looked slightly tense for some reason. They were paired for the first time alongside serious crime squad officers Gerry John and John Brazier.

Sir Alex Ferguson is currently attempting to sign Frank Lampard and this shows the importance he places on experience. Someone not lacking in this department is Neville Dennis(15) and Frank Massey(11) and these ageing golfers picked up 1st place in the over 60’s event with 39 points.

Iain Bartholomew(3) and John Hilditch(14) saw their beautiful relationship strengthen further as they scored an excellent 40 points in the damp conditions to take 4th place.
Gary Garner(7) and Mark Green(12) finished in 3rd place to move them to the top of the Order of Merit, also scoring 40 points.

Sale Golf Clubs Moby Rawthore(3) has struggled in recent months however he was back to his battling best as he teamed up with Hopwood member Tony Ramatowski(22) as they also scored 40 points for a second place finish.

It was slightly disappointing that there were no real 3rd round shocks in the FA Cup this year however todays event saw golfing ‘minnows’ Neil McKinlay(11) and Bob Sutton(19) incredibly take first place. Earlier this year in three consecutive events Bob Sutton finished last, 2nd to last and then last again. If he had been a racehorse somebody would have shot him by now. Today he was inspired and teaming up alongside Neil McKinlay their 40 point haul was good enough to take the honours. Well played chaps.

Many thanks to the Ballard brothers from Shotsaver for their kind and continued sponsorship of Maxitours events.
