Cleveland Masters Mere results and TUESDAYS start times at Sandiway

The Cleveland Masters sponsored by John Gallagher.

Many thanks to all who played on Thursday in the Cleveland Masters at Mere. Thanks also to Karen Gallagher who really enjoyed running the day for me, and I gather she did a great job in my absence.
Apparently Maxitours players are not the best looking golfers she has seen however they are an incredibly nice group to deal with.
I have just received the results from Karen and I have never seen as many people enter the 2’s sweep, this just goes to prove that men find it very hard to say no to an attractive blonde.
I gather the course was in terrific condition and the weather was good so many thanks to the wonderful Mere resort for their hospitality.

Congratulations to all the winners, a great score by Laurie Cole’s strange talking team from Staffordshire. Well played also to second placed Colin Byrne and Steven Ballard, I have given these guys a couple of lessons and I can only presume they had far more than their fair share of lucky bounces!

A big thank you to John Gallagher from Cleveland/Srixon for once again providing a terrific prize table.
I look forward to seeing you all next week at Sandiway, I will be the fat but nicely tanned lad with his computers in the corner. (this all inclusive holiday is killing me).
Yours in golf,
Tim

Lovely Prestbury results + Mere start times

Maxitours at lovely Prestbury

Another full field enjoyed the wonderful Prestbury Golf course in todays Maxitours event.

Prestbury’s fairways and greens were in really immaculate condition despite heavy overnight rain. They were holding a well struck iron shot and yet rolling incredibly fast and true.

Even big Colin Byrne managed to get a little bit of backspin on the par three 17th hole.
At least two of his playing partners definitely saw Colins bottom lip tremble slightly as his ball pitched by the flag on the 17th hole and spun 70 feet down the hill towards the picturesque babbling brook.

Wayne Rooney was delighted to return from international duty just in time to give Colleen a quick kiss on the cheek before hurrying up to his room to watch today’s golf. He was disappointed to be substituted late on last night and things went from bad to worse as he witnessed Paul Dalby struggling to make a double bogey on the short par four fourteenth. Bob Sinclair brought a smile to his face soon after with his classy four point birdie.

Liverpudlian Chris Murphy must be great player. The top car park was full except for an space coned off for a large delivery vehicle to access the course for some urgent maintenance work. Phil thought the cones were put there to reserve his very own car parking space. The irate greenkeeper was non too happy, ‘who in the right mind would park there?’ he asked. ‘Calm down, calm down’ came the reply.

Seventy six year old Neville Dennis(15) rolled back the years and declared ‘watch out, I’m back’ after he played some terrific golf today. Neville finished 3rd scoring after 44 points playing alongside Rob Sinclair(10) . Martin Firth(8) teamed up with Macclesfields Steve Goodier(25) and they also scored 44 points with a slightly better back nine to take 2nd place.

Todays honours went to Josh Brand(3) and Pete Atherton(13) from Lymm. Three handicap Brand had a hot streak when he birdied the 8th and 9th before eagling the long 11th hole. Less talented playing partner Pete used his shots wisely to back up when required. Congratulations on your first win chaps!

Many thanks to all players for your tremendous support, I hope you had a great days on the links. Yours in golf, Tim

Picturesque Pleasington + Prestbury times

Maxitours at Pleasington

The marvellous Pleasington course was presented in immaculate condition for todays Maxitours event. The hand cut and newly ironed greens gained much praise and the course comments from todays competitors ranged from ‘First class’ to ‘Absolutely brilliant!’.

The weather was kind and the occasional refreshing drizzle was particularly welcomed by the absent minded Peter Coughlin who could be seen scurrying from hole to hole in search of his missing sky caddie.

I am currently reading ‘Golf is a game of confidence’ by top golf psychologist Bob Rotella. It is vital to approach each round with a positive mental attitude in order to play great golf. Today it was clear Bob Sutton has not read this particular book. ‘I’m only playing if you promise not to put our score down when we come last’ he begged whilst checking in.

Lance Armstrong was yesterday accused of taking performance enhancing substances. Today Colin Robert’s team were nearly drug tested after picking up 8 shots in the first five holes. However they played like cold turkeys on the back nine and scored just 35 points for a seventy nine point total and 5th place.

John Stubbs has played at Pleasington twice this year and he averages a very respectable 3 points on the signature 7th hole. In the May Maxitours event his faultless, picture perfect, historic albatross earned his team 6 points. Today he lost out in an epic fight with a hawthorn bush on his way to a nil point score.

Happy go lucky Mike Wilson(10) always enjoys playing his golf, but he rarely features in the prizes. It was suggested by his golfing friends that the only wood he can pull out of his bag with any confidence is his pencil. Today the short game wizard parred all the short holes as his team of Bobby Emmett(8), Peter Coughlin(10) and Gary Conroy(8) finished third with an excellent 84 points.

Second place went to Dave Almond-Smith(3), Sam Wilson(+2), Carl Kennedy(11) and Joe York(scr) with a terrific 85 points. They were disappointed to lose out by just one point. Team mate Joe York refused to blame any particular member of the team however he quietly told everyone in the clubhouse how Wilson missed a two inch backhander after a wonderful chip.

Winning todays event was Didsbury Golf Clubs badly dressed team of Barney Ross(4), Paul Dalby(5), Adam Hart (8) and Malc Wells(4). A terrific 86 point total saw them win by a solitary shot with all four players combining well.-Congratulations chaps great golf!

Delightful Dunham and Pleasington start times

http://www.maxitoursgolf.com

Maxitours at Dunham Forest Golf Club.

A glorious Autumn day greeted the 100 Maxitours competitors at majestic Dunham Forest today. The wonderful course always looks beautiful with its huge ancient oak and beech trees and it was in excellent condition considering the recent heavy rainfall.

Everyone was in the mood for a great days golf especially after Europe retained the Ryder Cup in such fantastic style against the United States just 4 days ago.

For the first time in his golf career Richard Blackwell was today compared to Rory McLlroy. Blackwell has far from a magnificent short game. He certainly has not got tremendous ball control. He definitely has not got immense power off the tee, nor has he a flowing swing or flowing curly locks for that matter. (I am not 100% sure but I don’t think his wife is a six foot blond tennis babe either, although I may be doing her an injustice.) I am afraid that the similarity ends with his dramatic late entrance as he screeched into the car park with just minutes to spare before his tee time.

Richard Preston and his wealthy Mere team were ‘hoopin and hollerin’ after picking up six shots in the first 4 holes however they got that Jim Furyk feeling after dropping two shots in their final four holes and they could only manage a 10th place finish.

Steve Rourke(9) is perhaps the scruffiest golfer in Cheshire . Today he resembled a poor mans Martin Kaymer as he coolly knocked in a testing six foot par putt on the 18th hole under immense pressure. This secured 3rd place with 86 points playing alongside Dave Ryder (7) Ben Shaw(9) and Cath Rawthore(1)

George ‘Poulter’ Drakonakis(3) recorded four birdies on the back nine as he teamed up with Sale’s Pete Moores(11), Moby Rawthore (4) and Jack Bagshaw(19) to finish in 2nd place with 86 points.

Todays winners with 86 points were the team of Frank Stapleton(12), Stuart Pearson(6), Blake Norton(4) and Barry Gibney(14). Between them legends Stapleton and Pearson won five FA Cup finals, but this victory against such a class field eclipsed even those achievements.
‘You can forget that lucky goal I scored in the ‘77 cup final win against Liverpool, or the cross that set up Trevor brooking to score in West Ham’s win against Arsenal in 1980. This is by far the biggest win of my sporting career.’ said an emotional Pearson. ‘I may be the first player to score for two different clubs in FA Cup finals’ blubbed Stapleton ‘but this tops everything’.

Many thanks for your continued support, I really hope you enjoyed your day.

*DUNHAM NEWS* + Final Shotsaver s430 Order of Merit

Dear Maxitours player,

I am emailing to inform you that the greens at Dunham Forest will not quite be at their usual very high standard on Thursday. Professional Ian Wrigley has kindly reduced the course fee so the cost is now reduced to £20 per player. The greens were hollow tined as usual in August and no work was scheduled however due to the heavy rain there were signs of disease on the greens due to saturation and the green keeper was forced to virti drain on Monday.

The excellent course is dry underfoot and the forecast is good so I am sure it will still be a very enjoyable day’s golf!

Thanks for your cooperation on this matter,

Yours in Golf,

Tim Maxwell.

Many congratulations to Gary Garner on his consistent performances this year he wins the latest s430 Golf GPS system which is by far the best product on the market- with no annual fee!
