The Shotsaver Classic at Davenport GC

The Davenport Golf Course was ‘in the best condition in the history of the club’ according to the Secretary Chris Souter, indeed his sentiments were echoed by all the 96 Maxitours competitors in todays wonderful Shotsaver Classic tournament.

Image conscious Pete Myers has resorted to wearing all black on the golf course after putting on a few pounds in recent months, chubby Rob Tabbron is past caring however, and the misguided builder unfortunately decided a pair of white pants would be a ‘good look’ for todays event.

Terry Davison looked in good spirits as he made a loud entrance into the clubhouse ‘did you hear about my tremendous win our Wednesday section?’ shouted the Geordie. Unfortunately for Terry form is only temporary and he had to rely heavily on the more talented Geoff Haynes today as they recorded 40 points.

Maxitours legends Darren Whittaker and Ian King scored 42 points despite not scoring on the 16th hole. Darren owns a successful holiday caravan park within walking distance of the Davenport course, anyone wishing to take their wife on a caravanning holiday to Stockport please contact me or call into your local Psychiatric hospital ASAP.

Chunky Alex Jerman hit a wonderful drive to within four feet to set up a tremendous eagle on the 277 yard 2nd ‘it landed like a butterfly’ said Alex. ‘It was a good job my partner James Holman is a chiropractor’ continued Alex, ‘my back’s killing me, I’ve just carried him around 18 holes today!’ They were delighted with 44 points and 3rd place.

Brothers Mark and Paul Marshall were doing some serious bonding as they hugged and kissed each other after a wonderful 36 points on the first 13 holes. A poor finish which culminated in a solid three putt at the last for a disastrous seven led to some serious bickering ‘I can’t believe you missed that short one’ said Mark, ‘at least I wasn’t in the pond’ answered Paul quickly. Fourth place went to Manchesters’ Ted Ellis and Chris Dykens who got that Jean Van de Velde feeling as they also could only manage a seven at the last for their 44 points.

Jonny Chan and lucky Moby Rawthore eventually took the honours with a better last 6 holes to win on a card play off with a magnificent 45 points. Jonny enjoys socialising, singing and playing the piano and he was really partying on the course today after a mishit rescue club scuttled onto the green to set up a birdie at the first.

Many thanks to Steven and Jason Ballard from shotsaver for your fantastic sponsorship and to all competitors for your support of todays event, Tim

Maxitours at the Tytherington Golf Club

Despite recent heavy rain Tytherington Golf Course was in superb condition for todays Wilson Masters Am Am. This quality golf course is set to become a Maxitours favourite and the feed back from all the players was extremely positive. In fact the only complaint of the day came from Ian Greenough ‘this course just doesn’t suit a big slice’ – I will let the course designer know, thanks Ian.

Early in the day Darren Clarke look-alike Paul Baxter (big smile, portly frame, old and grey) played some magical punch shots and steered his less talented team to a super 86 points.

Colin Lynch was nearly in tears after his bad day, his team could only manage 74 points and he also found out the exhaust pipe on his Ferrari needs replacing.

Mike Lynch told his team not to put him in the twos sweep ‘Leave me out I’m hopeless’ said the humble Lynch. Sure enough the other three members recorded twos and Lynch missed a sitter on the 13th despite a career best tee shot.

Attractive Gail Heggarty always looks immaculate on the golf course and she made a flawless birdie on the tough 16th hole to help earn her team a share of 5th place.

Talented Ben Shaw- who’s mum named him after drinking a bottle of her favourite pop- played some sparkling golf around the turn. Bubbly Dave Ryder and the fizzy Derek Bridgeman also contributed well as they teamed up with Steve Rourke (who was slightly flat) on their way to second place with 88 points.

The golf mad Shrigley Hall lads may not be blessed with good looks but they can certainly play good golf and softly spoken Alan Pengally made an eye catching birdie on the tough 18th hole to ensure a 1 shot victory. Most of the damage was done by single figure players Andy Stubbens and Brian Hopkins, Charles Herbert tended the flag nicely all day.

Wilson Golf’s Malcolm Thornily showed off his companys excellent products as he provided an absolutely superb prize table for todays tremendously well supported event at Tytherington- many, many, thanks Malcolm you are a star. Malcolm teamed up with rising star plus 2 golfer Luke Burrows who eagled the first three par fives!

Shotsaver Masters at North Manchester

The superb North Manchester links and a swirling wind provided a great challenge for the Maxitours golfers in todays event.

Gary Youel and Carl Mollart from Silkstone near Barnsley took the early lead. ‘By eck that were a gud cuss’ said Gary . His best shot was a rescue club to 3 feet which set up the only birdie of the day on the challenging second hole.

Ray Ward from Hindley Hall began the day with a terrific 4 points at the first, he played the hole superbly but really needs to work on hiding the look of surprise on his face after the ball rolled in for a birdie three.

Louis Laviscount played alongside the likeable Stuart Bailey and the 2 handicapper birdied the last to record 43 points to ensure a top four finish.

Moby Rawthore’s partner was his more talented wife Cath, they were still speaking to each other at the end of the round after an excellent 43 points.

Simon Maxwell was delighted to play in the same fourball as ex Man Utd keeper Jeff Wealands and this childhood hero inspired him to record 43 points as he teamed up with my childhood hero – my Dad!

Another father and son combination eventually took the honours as 6 handicapper Mark played alongside Ryan (4) who luckily has his mothers looks. Ryan eagled 15 and then birdied 16 and 17 to secure a great victory and pick up the fantastic shotsaver range finders!

Paul Bloomfield hit a magnificent eight iron to 2 inches at the last to win nearest the pin- ‘even a blind squirrel finds an occasional nut’ reported Steve Pinnington.

Many thanks for your playing today, the next few events are being tremendously supported and due to the quality of the courses and prizes they are filling fast.

Hi chaps,

Here are details of next years Turkey trip.

We are staying at the incredibly impressive Cornelia Diamond this year which has better facilities and larger rooms than the Deluxe hotel we enjoyed last year.

The trip is £639 this year which I hope you think is still tremendous value especially with the hotel upgrade.
