Todays Hazel Grove Results
Hazel Grove was in magnificent condition for todays Maxitours golf event. The delightfully smooth Mackenzie greens were enjoyed by all players in the lovely conditions.
The better Maxitour players like Norman Quick and John Grint found that the fast greens were also very receptive to backspin due to overnight rain. Martin Williams decided to take this variable out of the equation, and he scuttled a 4 iron along the ground to within an inch of the hole on the tough par three 9th, and he embarrassingly won nearest the pin.
There was some great scoring in todays event as the Shrigley Hall team took the honours with a magnificent 92 points. Charles Herbert is ideal for the pro-am format with his ‘Ray Ray’ golf game (he plays one hole like Ray Floyd and the next hole like Ray Charles). A tremendous birdie on the last hole earned his team four points and a one shot victory.
In second place was the team of semi professional cricketers from Bolton. Despite their strange accents, Paul Tebays team played great golf. The highlight of their round was when batsman Rowen Hurst stroked in a ten foot putt for an eagle on the 280 yard par four fifteenth hole. Portly bowler Simon Booth however had a ‘wide’ when he missed from three inches on the last green, and his team missed out by a shot.
Third place went to the talented, good looking and intelligent 5 handicapper Dr Amanda O’Brien and her Tytherington team. The other members of the team are three less talented, less good looking and less intelligent men, they did do as they were told however, and they scored an excellent 90 points.
Alf Shillitoe hit a career best drive down the last hole and was nearly in tears when his ball crept into the rough to deny him the longest Drive, ‘are you sure that this isn’t the fairway?’ said Alf, as he tried not to lose sight of his ball in the knee high grass.
Simon Hartland was throwing his money around today as he entered the 2’s sweep and said I could keep the 50 pence change.
