*Room for 2 teams at Stockport on Monday -great forecast.

Maxitours at Reddish Vale

Reddish Vale is probably the best draining course in Manchester and when other local courses were closed todays surprisingly firm fairways and smooth greens were enjoyed by everyone.

‘What a cracker!’ Put me down for the Reddish event this Winter – that course is so dry.’ Declared an amazed Phil Dickens.

‘That was incredible, pass on my thanks to the green keeper- the course was superb.’ Praised likeable Scot Brian Fisher.

‘Alaster Mackenzie was on form when he designed this place -its great!’ Declared Stan Daniels.

Well done to everyone at Reddish.

The German bar manager is called ‘Barbell’ and her hospitality is second to one. She was brilliant today Thanks Barbell.

Paul Price is a great bloke. He missed a tiddler a couple of weeks ago to cost his team a bag towel – he bought four off me today in a desperate attempt to stifle the abuse he has had ever since.

We had possibly the first professor ever to compete in Maxitours today. We were graced to have the presence of an incredibly intelligent chap called Martin Humphries. Before some of you fall off your chair in disbelief there were two Martin Humphries playing today. The ever-present lovable regular playing Martin Humphries isn’t a professor. Or if he is, he is doing a very good job disguising it.

Scoring was once again very close at the top of the leaderboard. Bramall Parks Jon Hudson, Rob Blain, Geoff Alsop and Mark Batley posted an 83 early in the day to take the lead over another early starting team – Neale Laurent and his Dukinfield men. This was eventually good enough for 2nd place with big heated Hudsons classy par at the last proving to be very valuable.

Well liked Antrobus steward Dave Buckley and Jim Caldwell’s team were close behind on 82

Late in the day Pete Norbury (17) Andy Wilde (16) Dave Sarsfield(14) and Dave Rhodes(13) had a strong finish to take first prize. They collected six points, then seven, then six on holes 14 to 16 to move into contention. Well played chaps.

Thanks to everyone for your tremendous support.

Maxitours at tremendous Manchester GC

Hopwood is possibly the best inland course in Lancashire with 247 acres of wonderful golfing terrain -but its real strength is the friendly, warm welcome the Club gives to its visitors.

The Club is forward thinking and continues to improve each year. The new driving range facility is first class and the chipping area is a joy. Well done to all involved at Manchester Golf Club.

The older Hale team are nice guys but normally play average golf. The highlight of their day is usually talking nonsense in the bar. This week they all went home happier than usual . Not because they played well but rather they were delighted not to forget the six digit gate code on the walk from the clubhouse to their cars.
‘I didn’t think we could do it!’ Said an emotional Ian Goulty as the barrier slowly opened. Chris Brown was also close to tears.

Late in the day the wind really picked up.
Patrick Martin played here for the first time and was blown away by the course. His umbrella was also blown away. A gust on the 18th green set the brolly tumbling and portly Patrick managed to catch up with it somewhere near the 17th tee.

Scoring was once again very close.
Jon Hudsons likeable team had a remarkable best of the day 47 points on the front nine after several monster putts saw them collecting 21 points on the opening three holes. A nervy 29 points on the back nine saw them record the worst back nine of the day! What an incredible game.

Third place went to Jim Clarke, Graham Jackson, Dave Turbot and ballroom dance expert Mark Hagerty. Only two teams had a better back nine score than the front nine all day but Clarkes strong closing holes saw them home in 44 points to waltz into an excellent 3rd place.

Gary Neiles Sandiway team has found some good form in the last couple of weeks after a very quiet Summer and his team of John Longworth, Gavin Connor and Alan Giles scored 88 points. A two point haul on the signature 13th hole cost them dearly.

Winning was Roger Percivals cosmopolitan team of three well -spoken Delamere members and Salford’s Jason Hay. The team thought they had blown it after could only manage two points on the tough 16th but a seven point haul into the wind on the 18th secured a well earned victory. Pete Atherton and David Tate were the other on form team members.

Thanks to all who competed.
Next week is Llangollen. Thanks to all my players for your continued integrity.

Please remember to give me 3 weeks notice should you wish to cancel to allow others time to enter/ find a team

The most anticipated sporting event in the calendar takes place tomorrow. Yes, Stuart Blake is buying a new pair of golf shoes.
The Ryder Cup also takes place – I have a nasty feeling that America are going to be victorious.

Enjoy the emotion.

Tim.
